RLLMUK'S FAVOURITE ALBUMS OF 2015 - RESULTS!

Thanks, as always, to everyone who took time to think about and post their list for this year. I gave up an opportunity to go and see The Force Awakens for the fifth time to do this, I'll have you know. This is the 11th year in a row of doing this, and it's been a pleasure, apart from the occasional eyeroll at list-formatting offences - I'm looking forward to catching up on some new music.


So, here are the results! A 1st place vote scored 10 points, 2nd place 9, down to 10th place scoring 1 point.

I've posted the whole list here - there were 294 albums voted for in all (237 last year). If enough people want to query the results or look at the raw data, then I'll upload the spreadsheet.

I usually miss some near-duplicates or votes where someone got the artist and the title the wrong way round, so please feel free to point out any inconsistencies if it affects anything in the top 50.

Just for reference (I always look them up when I post the results), you can find results from previous years by using the albumsoftheyear tag.

Floating Points is the only double I noticed. I believe Elaenia is the correct spelling. Thank you for doing this, as ever. I'd hardly listened to anything new this year, but the top ten's gave me plenty to check out.

I think I listened to one album out that entire list. I mostly listen to podcasts in my free time now, I find most music either bores me or annoys me these days. I listened to the Grimes album yesterday, I like the mash up between happy hardcore n pop n the other ravey elements but wasn't blown away or anything. I'll slowly work my way through the list over the year.

When I was in my 20s I thought I'd always have my finger on the pulse, always be checking out a wide variety of music and even if I didn't like it I'd know what it was. Looking at this list makes me realise how disappointed my 28 year-old self would be with me today. Of the top 50 I've heard maybe 4 or 5 tops, and found myself thinking "wow, new order, Squarepusher, The Chemical Brothers all had albums out this year?" - pathetic. Will be checking out some of the albums mentioned for sure, but I suspect I'll end up falling back on all the stuff I seem to have settled on.

I think it got three 2nd and three 3rd places though, so it was amongst several peoples favourites rather than a "won because everyone thought it was just about worthy of a spot in the top ten" situation. Perhaps next year we could use Formula 1 style scoring (25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1) so being someone's top choice gives more of a boost Edit: jokey suggestion though, this way's cool!

Grimes would probably feature in my top 10, but I got the CD after I had already submitted my list and didn't fancy changing it around.

What I always like about these lists, there's always some band/artist I put in the search box a few years later, and realise someone was already telling me how great they were originally all along.

I tried the F1 scoring - the main differences were that Kendrick Lamar was first and Aphex Twin was 5th.

I realised I completely forgot an album for my top 10 which really should be there. Commiserations to Blanck Mass who would have secured themselves a place as high as 227 in the table.

I tried to listen to the Kendrik Lamar album again, but I just can't stand that guys voice. Really weak and ineffectual, and half the tunes on the album sound like jokes. I don't think I'll ever get his appeal.

Fairly happy with Grimes, Kendrick and Impala towards the top. Overrated but with merit. The Chvrchs and Holter LPs are awful, don't know what they're doing there. Good stuff ngchol, thanks for putting this together.
