Power Weapons in the Facility

The Goldeneye setting of champions. Only occasionally to be replaced by Proximity Mines in the Facility. But always the Facility, the Goldeneye map champions.

I bet loads of you were 'Pistols, 1 hit kills, in the Stack' types, weren't ya...

License to kill, Facility for me. Almost exclusively.

Same here. But we did sometimes use the setting with the mines and rocket launchers in Temple with normal health for a bit of fun. Nothing quite like pacing it across the top room firing rocking at a vague dot at the far side of the screen.

Bases in facility, with proximety mines, the toilets or the gas room is the base, as they both contain proximety mines, one team would hide out there making sure to keep the place sealed up and keep it for ten minutes, while the other team would have to force their way in and capture the base.

Pistols, Licence to kill, in the Archives.

Knowing every inch of the map and where everyone else was at any one time led to some fantastic 4-way standoffs, with nobody wanting to make the first move. Then someone running in all all hell breaking loose. Excellent stuff.

Always one-hit-kills though. Always.

Ok, so we're agreed. Anyone who plays with Pistols is a skank.

Oh come on! Pistols and Sniper Rifles etc. on one-hit kills surely leads to a more skillful game (from the point of view of good accuracy and cunning).

Non-one-hit kills and funky weapons in Perfect Dark I can understand, but in Goldeneye all players are invulnerable for a short period after being shot, making automatic weapons play oddly. eg. 'I've unloaded a whole RC-P90 magazine into you yet you're still standing and on merely half health'.

While I loved Goldeneye, I was never as good as my friend on DM. For some reason when I got Perfect Dark, it all seemed to click and I would tear him apart.

For Goldeneye, it would be Facility, license to kill with Pistols. Sorry ;)

On Perfect Dark it would be Felicity with Shotguns and the laptop gun.

With auto-aim off, aye.

Actually, which one was Facility, I can never remember?

If it's the one with the upstairs and downstairs bit, the secret doorway/tunnel upstairs with the little wooden rooms with the glass window panes, the room downstairs with the pillars and the crates, and the magnum-by-the-metal door-at-the-top-of-the-stairs section, and it all being sort of greenish, then that's the one we used to play on all the time!

Oh, that and the level with the toilets! Re-spawnerific!!

I usualy find that leads to people being 'teh gayers' by hiding and that just leads to a boring stand-off.

Nope, I prefer running around like a lunatic with all guns-a-blazin'!

Haha! ;)

Yes, you're right about hiding and so on but I quite liked the suspensefulness of that. I'm looking down from some way back from the balcony in the stack and they see on my screen a bit of their arm come into view MUWAHAHA! cue music and red blood! "Jim stop being gay!", "Hey you're the one who moved into view!" etc.

What I found is that one-hit-kill pistol levels (with no auto-aim) ended up with one-on-one firefights in small rooms, with both of us circling each other, firing repeatedly, bullets hitting the walls behind us, until someone got lucky and hit the other person.

Of course, it was normally the person with the Dostovoi(sp?) who won, due to that 1 extra bullet per clip.

Classic memories.

My fave setting was 2vs2 teams, facility, automatics, with health set to -4. This made for a really good game, because it was so tense- minus 4 health meant that guns were really effective, but not so effective that you could win just by hosing people down. Headshots were instant kill, everywhere else was 2-3 hits. This meant that you actually had to play as a team, and cover each other, because otherwise you'd get pinned down and eliminated.

It gave the game a Halo-like vibe, because you were constantly in danger, yet also constantly on the verge of victory.

Sniper rifles in stack was also a favourite, with health set to minus ten, rather than license to kill, because then you could use body armour.

Some people used weird settings, though. One group of people I knew used to play with Lasers in the Caves, the sick freaks.

I know what your saying Jim, I too used to hate caves but grew to love em, there are some great ledges with views below so you can pick people off without them realising.

My mate used to always play as Grace Jones and he used sing'Slave To The Rhythm' as he slew me. Memories.

Caves was rubbish.

Archives with pistols, that's what I used to like. Facing off near the offices, trying to pop each other through the windows, glass smashing everywhere, peeping your head out only to see a bullet hole and puff of smoke right in front of your face -PEEEEOW!

Nothing has come close since.

If only you could have had four players in Archives...

So noone liked the complex then?

Complex was the bomb, but only if you knew it. There were so many sniping positions and secret doors that it was really annoying to play if you didn't know the layout too well.
