Power Weapons in the Facility

Sprite, yes that was the Complex. It was amazing when you played that level in PD and found you could go through that wall AND float up onto the roof.

Who needs an XBox type system link when you can split the screen with cardboard, that way I could hide in the toilets. Pity they removed the doors from them in Perfect Dark though.

Complex and Facility were the only levels I played really.

Hah, never tried it with more than two players. But not being able to see the other players screen enhanced the fun somewhat.

Heh, but then you lose all the inventive ways other people use to try to deceive you into thinking you're somewhere else. Like lying in wait somewhere and staring at the wall. Cue everyone else looking at all the patterns on all the walls trying to figure out what wall it is!

And one time, my friend stood out in the helicopter pad area, and hid right up in the corner by some trees, and all you could see was a black screen. I forget how he did it, but it was bloody hard to find him - until I stepped outside and he caught me off guard.

One group of people I used to play Goldeneye with had some crazy house rules, like 'no screenwatching'. Of course, this was practically impossible to enforce in actual play, but it meant for some stupid situations. Like, whenever someone entered the vents in Complex, it was impossible not to spot because their entire quarter of the screen would suddenly turn blue. Cue three other people pretending they "just happened" to be standing outside the other end of the vent, guns ready.

This chat is sooo nostalgic for me, keep it going please people!

It seems everybody's preferences were similar. I also liked facility, complex and archives, on either normal, -4 or licence to kill.

The more I think about it the more I realise this should really be my top game of all time, but then ocarina of time... damn it.

Of course, it was normally the person with the Dostovoi(sp?) who won, due to that 1 extra bullet per clip.

Classic memories.

Yeah, but the PP7 was more accurate than the Dostovei so that made up for it.

Pistols, Complex and Licence To Kill for us. Occasionally we played a bit of proximity mines in Stack (LTK, natch) for stupidly high-scoring matches.

God, don't get me started on this game- My brother, a couple of friends and myself played Goldeneye for pretty much the whole day during one summer holiday- and completely missed the much-vaunted eclipse that was happening at the time. I think one of us remarked 'got a bit dark, hasn't it?' and promptly looked back at the screen.

Ah, happy days. Best game ever.

We occasionally did the 3 vs 1 game where one person was Jaws (+10 Health, but easy to hit) and everyone else was normal characters (or slightly weaker) The Jaws character would then have to get as many kills as possible before dying (body armour definitely NOT allowed! Instant DQ).

Golden gun was hilarious, with 4 people circling each other (esp.in the main room in Stack), desperately trying to shoot between reloads. Brilliant stuff!

In multiplayer I always used to single out Oddjob, for some reason. I would hunt him down with a vengeance.

Facility was always played bacause everyone knew their way around because we always played facility. If that makes sense.

Normal, 1st to 10 kills, Facility, Power Weapons, me playing as Trevelyan. I'm lovin it.

What are the chances of some clever chap getting Netplay up and running with an N64 emulator? (as seen in ZSNES).

I only discovered how good fecility was when i got perfect dark. that place is proper matrix in slow motion, you stand at the end of the corridor where the stairs come down and kill everyone :)

it has to be said, i still believe the single player version of fecility is one of the greatest gaming levels ever made. for some reason, its perfect. i must have spend hours of my life killing scientists and just pissing about. i thought the idea of putting in pointless rooms is genius.

I didn't mind people using him really, you've just got to be ready to aim downward on a few occasions......

I found that when playing against Oddjob, although he was smaller and harder to hit, when you did manage to catch him at close range, it was usually a headshot, and therefore more damaging... (without using manual aim)

Might have just been lucky, though.

Oddjob and Jaws were banned for us.

Facility, 2v2, Golden Gun. Sitting in the toilets, defending the Golden Gun. "It's me it's me" you'd shout to your team mate as you ran in, hoping he wouldn't accidently shoot you. And any poor bastard who spawned in the vent while someone was in there was usually given one chance to get out by me and Will (my usual teammate) but if they tried going for the gun, they'd be shot every time they spawned there. If me or Will ever spawned in the vent, we were shot straight away, our opponents not as kind to us as we were to them.

If you didn't have the gun, you were in trouble. You had to entice the team with the gun out of the toilets, kill one of them, and storm the other guy in the bogs. Of course, he'd kill one of you straight away, but the other was left to run around, franticly trying to avoid the golden bullet in between reloads, and waiting for the gun to reappear. Utterly amazing stuff.

Or we'd do Pistols, Licence to Kill, Complex, Free for All. Which I never enjoyed so much, cos I was rubbish at that level.

Caves was indeed utter wank.

Aztec was probably the only other level we would play, with Automatics.

What character did everyone have? I was buggered, because some higher power had already decided that Bond, Trevelyan and Orumov would go to the other three, which left me with like, Boris. So I just swapped between marines, Boris, Guards etc.

Goldeneye really is the only thing I miss about gaming now. None of my friends care enough about them anymore for us to have proper fourplayer weekends, and even if we somehow did get one organised, none of them would want to play Goldeneye. Halo's good, but it's not Facility.

We had all of these sayings and stuff that we'd apply to Goldeneye. They were like commentary cliches eventually. Whenever my wee mate RB got nailed my a grenade or rocket launcher someone would say "Look at RB in the flames." It had to be said. And we used to say stuff like "RB is the first to fall."

I remember another group of my friends brought their elite players round to mine to take on my regular Goldeneye buddies. Historic night. We were less than impressed with their "proximity mines all over the basement in the Stack" tactics, though it did allow for much "Look at RB in the flames" hilarity.

Also, you had to pity fools who could only manage to find Klobbs.

Klobb: worst gun ever. It's the Lada of Goldeneye guns.

Of the pistols I really loved the Dostovoi (sp?). About the time I'd just been rated as "solid and dependable" as a center half in our PE assessment. "Solid and dependable" was eventually used to describe the Dostovoi. We had this stupid thing where we'd compare the sound of the guns to coughing and such like. The Klobb's fire was like a dying leper coughing his throat up while the Dostovoi was like a complete whooping cough.

Those were the days. Sigh.

We always used to call the Klobb the sewing machine. And I always used to play as Janus Special Forces- it was so passe to play as Bond, or one of the other main characters.

Apart from Baron Samedi, of course. He was cool.

Ah the Klobb! It did less damage than a hair-dryer!

Strangely enough, even with -10 health, a bullet from that thing wouldn't kill anyone!

Here's a quality GE memory - proximity mines inbetween sliding doors!

And under body armour!

Much hilarity!

What about the magnum though? It may have been the most powerful handgun in the world, but why did it take so long to shoot? You had to 'pre-order' (as we used to say, bizarrely) your shot and aim ahead of your target. Getting lumbered with a magnum in our one-hit-kill scenarios vastly reduced your life expectancy, but the hilarity when someone actually hits with it - a huge 'thwack' sound, like someone's cracked a wet towel at someone.

Incidentally, did anyone have any 'gentleman's' rules regarding combat and shhoting unarmed players? We used to, which added a whole new dimension of people running through firefights shouting "unarmed!". Bigger death wish than the civilians in Virtua Cop...
