So, I was umming and aahing over this and finally went sod it this lunchtime. I'll say one thing, xsolla is as terrible, terrible payment system. What a shit show with paypal. Anyway, all sorted now via a card instead so will get it installed after work hopefully.

It's best to do a couple of offline raids to get used to areas. Turn the Scavs on if you want to practice engagement, or just wander around. Course you could just jump into the deep end and get brutalised straight away :p

 

no one area seems to be a good starter but yeah, Interchange and Customs are good to learn. I would do an offline of each a few times as there's no map or compass and learning them is a bugger.

First two attempts/raids done and survived. Legitimately terrifying! :lol:

 

First attempt I wanted to use a scav but wasn't ready yet so thought I'll go in offline with my main and then clicked yes to pve is it, so has scavs? Hit next and as it was loading realised that meant oh bugger, scavs will want  a piece of me if they find me. Fear factor goes through the roof. :ph34r:  First off just tried to work out where the hell I was which took more than a while and basically hugged the perimeter picking up whatever I could whilst making far, far too much noise with accidental shots and key presses looking for actions to do stuff. Finally thought I'd worked out where I was and followed round to the train tracks pickin gup odds and sods along the way and extraction. Phew!

 

But of course you don't get to keep anything like that! Bugger.

 

So, this time I go in as a scav. Once again have absolutely no idea where I am on the map (it's amazing how scary this is) it seems to be a mini power station. I again hug the wall and get so far round before, for some reason (my innate sense of direction, maybe, lol?) thinking I don't think this is the right ways heading for what I hope is the railway again. I turn back, all the while scanning and listening. The silence is terrifying. Then nip in to a small outhouse and start searching a box whilst at the same time time hear a rustle behind me. Oh god, oh god, oh god. Exit and turn and to see a bloke having a fag just look me up and down. It then dawns on me, it's another scav so I'm safe! Followed immediately by, that means I can pop him. I lift my sniper rifle (VPO215?) I spawned with and from pretty much a whole ten feet take him out with a shot to the head. My first kill! I then proceed to hug the perimeter again hoping/praying that I'll recognise something and am heading towards the railway again. As I turn to go round one wall I see a body just lying there outside a door. Loot! So I nip across and scavenge anything I can get my hands on and I go. Finally, hallelujah, I see the railway in the distance...halleujah! But then I remember, there's a drop just near here from my first go, I get greedy and go for it. Heart is now properly beating but I pick some more stuff then turn and leg it for the exit. 5,4,3,2,1...I'm out! What a rush!

 

Oh this is very, very good... :D

Got some screenshots somewhere and many, many questions to come. And the shopping centre is calling me, I can feel it. :lol:

 

No idea what to do with all the guns and stuff I got. Need to go through it but sell it all at this level seems to be the idea from what I've picked up on so far.

We both have kids and wives and pull it off. The odd night we arent on but then someone else might be.

 

Ive been leveling up the hideout, its almost done so any questions on that I can help.

 

I can help with modding and maps too. What to bring into raids and when.

 

We are having a blast, so jump in and say hello.

 

We've a small crew of lads that love the game so its a nice vibe.

That discord link says it's out of date unfortunately. But anyway, would be great to tag along with you at some point if possible. I'm 5hrs behind so wouldn't be on till late your time most nights but am around earlier on some days and obviously weekends. Let's see what we can sort. :)

I read here that someone used to play Arma, this will hold you in good stead for this game. The Devs are all Arma heads and you can tell. We used to play Arma (still do just havent in last 6 months or so)

 

Its the same awareness you need when playing DayZ, you have to be aware of your surroundings at all times. You literally have to clear floors in a structure if you are going to loot. Its that experience in game that builds the pressure and ultimately the high of a successful raid.

 

@Herbalizer joined us about 6 weeks ago and quickly dropped into our game play. We make mistakes but try our best to learn from them. As a result we have really enjoyable matches....sometimes (Herbalizer at the start seemed to be a bullet magnet and I recently went on a roll of bad luck).

 

We look forward to playing with new players and having fun.

Yeh, I used to play Op Flashpoint then a bit of Arma, checks notes...18/19 years ago!? Oh dear god. :lol: I get the play style but was not in any way good at it. 

 

Started to die a bit last night as didn't care and was running for exits and being a silly sod. Always a good idea to attack a fully kitted up main with a pistol and bugger all else. 

 

Had one venture in to the shopping centre (who knew it could be so scary?) and was creeping my way around when a Sam Fisher lookalike, fully kitted in black, nv goggles and a very sexy silenced pistol, popped round a corner. I panicked and shot him to pieces (lvl27). Hohoho. Then looted it all and was limping heavily. God it makes you feel exposed when you can't move quickly. Proceed to wander around through some offices stealing cpu bits and getting scared by what sounded like nearby gunfire. Then was like, I have to get out of here, followed by how the hell do i get out of here? Went round in what must have been a full circle and found the escalator I came in on. Dragged myself away and out and headed for the exfil. Dived in to an ambulance but no meds (properly gutted), got popped at by a scav who I managed to locate (so was pleased with my hearing), fired back and limped heavily away. They didn't follow thank god. Down to 8 min left and getting closer to SE exit, hugging the wall and feeling very exposed. Get there, countdown starts...and some utter, utter bastard was obviously camping and shot me once in the head and body to kill me with 2s left before extract. Oh that is loooooow. :lol:

 

At least I put the dog tags in my container!

I would say luck more than judgment, every time!

 

Did have one very funny moment with a main. Was just running around trying to get bits and had gone in with just a knife as was just like, sod it. Came across someone doing exactly the same and we both sized each other up, weakly pointed our knives at each other then did a few bunny hops to make friends (and confirm we were both a bit knackered) and went on our merry ways.

Today has not been a good day. Dead within minutes, long queues*, can't hit a cows arse with a shovel. I'm rusty as shit and I'm making all sorts of idiotic mistakes.

 

 

 

*this is the thing that's fucking me off most. I'm fucked if I'm waiting 6+ minutes to get into a game to be dead within 2.  This can't be about server access now, it has to be something to do with the netcode/way the game handles matchmaking.

I think I read on the forums/reddit if you choose different servers and not by auto it might be better. Big might though.

Had a great afternoon on this yesterday with a lot of help from a few new friends. It is sooo much better to play with others. Anyway, they showered me in cash and goods, some of which i got out alive with. Still massively overwhelmed by lots of it (volume of info to take in and think about is rather large) but the base game is stupendously exciting/addictive/terrifying.
