Popular Post Nespresso
Well guys, I done did it. On the 6th of February I finally achieved the rank of The Global Elite in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (which I achieved after the rank rebalance that happened in December I might add). It took me a whole lot of time (1100 hours) and energy (drank a lot of Monster Energy) but in the end it was all worth it. Even with all of the cheaters and griefers running amok I persevered and slowly kept moving up the ranks. With each match trying to learn from my mistakes and make improvements to my overall play style, increasingly getting a better understanding of the game and its meta. Along the way I made some friends (and probably some enemies as well) but now I finally have that shiny picture next to my name to prove I am the best of the best! (as far as the game's own competitive matchmaking goes of course). So now that I've attained both the title of the forum's Smartest Gamer (after beating The Talos Principle without the use of any guides) and the forum's Most Skilled Gamer I've pretty much got the world at my feet! Where do I go from here you might ask? I don't know yet... I might take a course in knitting or maybe try my hand at stamp collecting? Who knows! Exciting times ahead though that's for sure. In all seriousness though I do kind of, sort of, feel 'proud' in a weird way. Life has been rather shit for me as of late and with not a lot of going for me at the moment this does feels like a tiny achievement (like dis if u cri everitim). You may think that's sad or whatever but being able to say "I'm a Global Elite in Counter-Strike" now feels a bit rewarding after having spent so much time with it! Yes I could've learned to play the guitar or maybe have learned a different language even but where's the fun in that? Context: For reference out of 1.050.926 Players this is the current rank distribution from the last 30 days. Some more context: The rank-up game: So sexy: The moral of the story? Don't let angry Russians bring you down and never give up!

Broker
I platinumed Dark Souls and Bloodborne. I can start BB with a new character and get to and defeat FG in about ten minutes now.

Shimmyhill
If I had CS:GO I would defi be Global Elite, I imagine as soon as I signed in it would give me the badge for services rendered in previous CS versions! The 1100 hours you have put in are basically why I don't own a PC anymore, fuck I love CS!
NEG
I reached a point in WoW where, despite new expansions still came out, I felt like I had nothing to prove anymore of my own ability, skill and time investment towards the game. I'm proud of what I managed in the game overall. TBC through Wrath, and then Cataclysm may as well have been my retirement era, my name alone became a knowledge of quality, trust and worth for the server, I could kick back and not take it as seriously in a equally not as serious guild. I was done.

joffocakes
In Super Street Fighter IV I reached B Rank online with every character. It worked out as roughly 130 Ranked Match wins each for 35 different characters. It took aaaaages but I wasn't interested in playing any other games anyway. Plus I didn't have the skills to get my main character to A rank instead.
Down by Law
I beat Hotline Miami 2 on Hard (underplaying it really, should have been called SADISTIC) and got the platinum in MKX which required a serious amount of time and commitment. I beat FEAR on the xbox 360 without dying and using less than 500 round of ammo. Finishing New York Minute in Max Payne 3 Beating Dead to Rights on the original Xbox (to date, one of the hardest games I've played) This because I play it like a sadist:
angel
I just beat axiom verge on hard under 4 hours with <40% items. Did a no death run too but it says I died twice (I think its counting cutscenes). Not a huge feat, but I enjoyed the game so much I even wrote myself a little solution guide of the most efficient path.

Speaking of which, how are our Street Fighters ranked on here? Surely we have one or two in the highest ladder?

Yobo Ahoy
I've done all of Haruka's Princess League side missions in Yakuza 5. The hand-shaking marathons, the creepy running bits, the crappy quiz shows and the strange impromptu mini pop concerts. And I hated every one of them.

Gavin
I think it's right and proper that we should feel a semblance of pride upon reaching a certain status or level of completion/mastery of any given game. It often shows a level patience, dedication, concentration and sometimes just downright skill that, if displayed in any other hobby, should be respected and appreciated. I can't think of a proper analogy but I suppose it would kinda be like spotting an incredibly rare bird in bird watching or hunting down a penny black or whatever it's called in stamp collecting, these are things that the devoted community would appreciate. It's actually one of the reasons I enjoy the achievement/trophy system as it's solid proof of what you did. Anyway, getting all achievements in DARK SOULS 2 is probably my recent bragging point as not many folks would persevere through that, I'm looking at you Dark Lurker...
b00dles
My favourites are probably on the DC and I wish I could have recorded some of my gameplay back then. I have too much of an ongoing pile of shame to really concentrate on one game like I used to. Finished original Tony Hawks without knowing you could do 'special bar' moves at all, the time challenges like roswell had to be one continual unbroken combo or you just couldn't get near the target (unless you knew how to do special moves...). I finished the challenge mode as Wesker on Code Veronica where you only get his knife. Which may not be that hard for this place but it took me and a mate ages at the time and I only just managed it. Alex W.
That reminds me of my first sequence break. In Castlevania CotM I didn't realise that there was an item that made poisonous, HP-sapping water safe to move through, and just assumed that the waterways dungeon was really hard. Felt really dumb when I found the item later, and then kind of chuffed about it.
b00dles
For a forum of gamers, we're great at repeated variants of "wait, there's a run button?"
Timmo
Two without doubt: Ninja Gaiden 2 on Master Ninja difficulty. This was obscenely hard. When the game was first released, lots of forums contained people who had finished the game on the second hardest difficulty talking about how Master Ninja mode was impossible and needed patching, and a lot couldn't get past the first 10 seconds. It didn't need patching, it really was just that hard. FIFA 15 Ultimate Team Division 1 champion. Online divisions starts at division 10 and goes to 1. Each is harder than the last as you're playing better players. To win Division 1 you need (if I remember correctly) 8 wins from 10 matches, those matches against players you've been matched with i.e. ones who are similarly high. There is something like 2% of players in Division 1. The last match, where I was holding onto a one goal lead for 70+ minutes, was perhaps the tensest I've been playing a game. Been trying to recreate the feat this year but can't get past 5 wins at the moment.

mechamonkey
Went back to Dark Souls2 on ps4 this week, tried a greatsword build and was overjoyed to smack shite out of the Royal Rat Authority Boss after not playing for a long while and with wildly inappropriate massive slow weapon first attempt, felt real good! Anyone that's done this fight will tell you what a PITA he (and the little rat fuckers) are for a slow melee type
