I had a flick through the Last Jedi Visual Dictionary earlier and discovered this little gem about Luke's front door:

Ok, theres a pretty good quality rip out there... watched it finally... I say watched it... I've made it through about 1/3 before I got bored shitless and turned it off.....

Yeah it doesnt really get that much better. I'd say the latter half is better but the B-plot with rose/finn is so pointless and redundant. Good thing they made new characters just to make them irrelevant.

Rose is like that vegetarian, christian girl at school that always puts her hand up first, and imposes her views on you - weather you want to listen or not.

Poor Finn. No wonder he tried to kill himself.

And watching Poe go through the movie being neutered and treated like an imbecile - is about as exciting as watching Han sit through a twelve step - gamblers anonymous lecture - for 2 and a half hours.

Only less fun.

True colours? You total muppet.

He was stopped from adventuring, and turned into a masochist arse by Ryan Johnson, for pretty poor plot reasons.

And not liking badly written characters is completely different, to not liking female characters. Unless you are a simpleton.

I’ve said before that one of the best things about this new Star Wars film, is that it’s an amazing idiot-parsing tool and perfect for updating my ignore settings.

Wow! And for pointing this out I get a full on Neg stalked?! As mentioned, idiot-parsing and this just proves my point.

I’m not a paid up member anymore but I’ll certainly assume it’s one person.

I would rather have Jar Jar back than suffer any more of Rose.  And that's not being sexist or racist.  She was just an awful character and actress.

Yeah. I agree with whoever said the casino jaunt should have been a Finn & Poe adventure - especially as the latter ended up being massively underused in the movie - meaning Rose either didn't need to exist or could have stayed with the fleet for that part (they could have then come up with some reason she had to do the trip to First Order ship) but thought she was quite good in herself, certainly not that anything was actually objectionable about her.

Rose was likeable, and I never thought she was badly acted. Badly written in places, especially the heavy handed sentiment on the casino planet but not badly acted.

Her character could have been actually used more - She's an engineer so they should have had her be the brains of the outfit who could defeat security systems.

That way they could have got rid of the whole casino planet subplot and the atrocious codebreaker. I think if there's any hate reserved for characters in this film, he should be pretty high up the list.

I'd have preferred the casino trip to have been luke and rey. A little side quest to collect someone or something before heading to the finale.

Except Luke was quite keen on staying where he was, it was kind of a big deal that he wasn't going anywhere. Kind of his MO most of the film?

He could have finally got that moisture vaporators (in a high stakes game as they're now a rare piece of equipment) he was supposed to have gone to Tosche Station 40-odd years prior

Actually I think my ideal scenario would be if she'd been the one they met in the cell and ended up as the codebreaker (with the same basic moral stance she had in the movie, having deliberately let herself get arrested to get close to the mainframe she intended to hack or something), heroically rescuing Finn and Poe after they cocked up the casino mission and obviously joining the resistance instead of selling them out!

  This is nuts.

Jar Jar has to be the worst thing about any Star Wars film.

One of my lads and I went to see it yesterday for the third time. I can confirm it's even better the third time and even even better immediately after watching The Force Awakens on DVD.

One thing we both noticed this time around:

Luke tells Rey he will give her three lessons but only gets as far as giving her two before she leaves. The first is that the Force isn't unique to the Jedi, the second is that the Jedi failed due to their hubris. There is no third lesson. We strongly suspect Force Ghost Luke will be back to finish Rey's training in the next episode!

I'm also convinced the next one will be called Spark of Hope because that exact phrase is in TLJ's opening crawl, just as "the last Jedi" was in TFA's.

Correction: second worst.

After sand.

Spoiler

It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

The third lesson is on the editing room floor.

I can't wait to see Rey's amazing new Force power after three whole lessons too.

Quite possibly. That doesn't preclude it happening in the next film though - like Rey meeting Poe was edited out of TFA and then happened in TLJ.

The whole point of the first lesson - and one of the themes of the whole film - is that the Jedi don't have a monopoly on the force and you don't have to be a Jedi to use it or even to be amazingly good at it. And the point of the second lesson is that the Jedi got lots of things wrong, including believing that they were the "one true path" to the force.

So Rey doesn't need loads of training from a wise old Jedi master. She's already incredibly powerful (enough to scare Luke) and she's learning all the time. She proved her wisdom by trying to save Kylo and by rejecting the invitation to join him.

It's just that they have left a nice little thread dangling if they want to pull on it next time.
