Nintendo account registration is live

Am I missing something here? It seems to be just creating something linked with the NNID, so the username there will remain and the 'Nickname' isn't going to have to be unique. That's something I've always found good about the Nintendo online games, actually, being able to be called 'Tim'.

EDIT: unless people are registering a new account and not linking it to NNID despite the big orange button, but I can imagine that causing all sorts of problems in terms of purchases and playing online.

I just tried to sign in to register with my nintendo network id and it claims I don't exist.

*Edit*

Tried to reset my password just in case and it claims there's no account linked to my email address. Slightly concerned now

I'm assuming linking my NNID to it means I'll eventually be able to prove that I own the WiiU games I bought digitally and can play them on the all conquering NX?

Registered accounts for the kids but they don't have NNID's.  Hopefully that isn't an issue.  They got by on the WiU without one before

When they closed Club Nintendo down I naively assumed that they would begin supporting all of Europe. LOL, right. Seems to be the same group of countries as with Club Nintendo.

Why do they insist on locking out so many people?
