Trackmania Turbo

Wow, this game is pretty darn good. Haven't had this much fun in ages. This is old school, proper gaming. The only downside I've noticed is that the music is rather dull. Thanks to all forumites who added me earlier, there's a certain Welsh gentleman I struggle to beat.

With that said, please keep adding me, this game is a lot more fun when there are loads of ghosts to choose from.

my initial love for this, after playing the top row of tracks in the main game, has moved to extreme frustration and multiple 'why on earth did they do that ?' moments. the track design just isn't fun, for me at least, it seems designed to annoy rather than let you flow.

love the handling of most of the cars (not those buggies) but the track design out the box is fairly annoying.

still getting some enjoyment out of it, and there seem some online rooms suited to the fast flowing tracks that I like, a lot of the game seems an exercise in frustration though

That's my biggest worry about the game and the reason I haven't bought it after the beta. Might wait out until it's in a sale as I'm not sure I'll get enough out of it to justify full price.

I know what you mean - it is basically Trials as a racer, with a similar difficulty wall.  I just decide to get as far through the 190 tracks as I can, and then practice those I can complete.

Trackmania isn't really about flowing tracks. The community always seem to love making obtuse complicated tracks that often require the use of GPS (which I'm not sure is in this variant).

For a good example of what Trackmania is outside this version Giant Bomb's video is pretty good.

Really enjoying this.

however few questions...

what at is this engine off engine on thing all about? It seemed to start happening out of nowhere.

this right stick jump thing doesn't work for me, is it only certain cars?

how are people playing, I find the thumb stick almost impossible so have started using the d pad. However some surfaces like sand seem to be very weird and random in how it controls with the d pad.

what is the green badge you get all about?

i think you can only use the stick to jump in "stunt" cards but not sure about that, and i also think the green medal for "trackmaster" is for beating the time of the person who created the track? it's a hidden time so you don't know what you have to get to beat it.

i was also wondering can you only race with ghosts of people on your friends list, is there no way to find a ghost of a random player to challenge? such as if you're top of the leaderboard out of friends to then challenge the person above you on the global leaderboard?

Is anyone else having sound (volume wise) issues with this (PS4 version)?

As soon as I loaded it up I thought it was v quiet (it's kind of muffled / muted almost as if I'm hearing it through a wall from another room!) and indeed setting my amp to an acceptable volume and then going to Broforce nearly deafened me!!

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it's still the same, dodgy copy (disc based) maybe????

Hean Dog - I'm using the stick.  The thing I've found with the sand / dirt is that it is throttle control that helps control rather than direction.

SnoopZakaDave - Yes, major flaw.  If they gave us a full leaderboard, you could pick which ghost to challenge.  I'm sure TMN on the PC allowed this.

I managed to get a 32.55 but I'm sure I'm doing something wrong on the drifty chicane. I'm pretty sure there's a way to drift it without tapping the brake in the middle (if you check my video on the last page I THINK I did it then but still tapped the brake instinctively which lost me time) but it never seems to click when I try

The perfect run on White 01 should be as follows

Drop to track

tap left to enter first mini chicane

tap right to miss middle block being sure to literally miss them by a mm.

Keep going straight on the dirt patch making sure not to turn and aimed slightly at the apex of right hander

start turning as as soon as back wheels leave dirt patch, doing so enough to leave it at such and angle you are slowly moving left.

Hit the jump and aim to land almost touching outside wall.

Start drift into chicane in dirt patch and at the mid point start turning left, quickly releasing then reapplying gas.

This should give you angle and speed coming out to finish a best possible speed.

I have nailed each section perfectly but not in a single run
