Holy shit, how have I only just heard of this? I've never been a fan of the other games, but I saw a quick snippet of this and thought it looked amazing. Then I'm watching videos on YouTube (with a huge grin on my face), then I'm downloading the PS4 trial; one track it took and I paid the 30 quid to unlock it.

If you love arcade racers, Outrun 2, Mario Kart, Hydrothunder, or even Trials HD to an extent, you will love this game. It looks beautiful, the music is perfect, and the handling is as fun as the track designs. Utterly wonderful game!

The unlock system in this seems a bit crap, I'm stuck on one track so can't progress at all, as far as I can work out anyway. I'm sure the system in trials was much better. Went back to improve times on earlier tracks, that was still fun at least.

I've not used them yet, but you can use Jokers to get the needed medal to progress.

You need to challenge the medal above what you need (eg: challenge gold and get a silver time twice) and you can then unlock the needed medal for progression.

Yeah I can't even complete the track, let alone get any sort of medal!

So I've been off work sick all week and I figured that what I've saved on fuel traveling in I could pick this up. I was frustrated and delighted by the beta which put me off picking it up. When it goes right it's a riot.

I didnt even touch online on this (actually havent played at all in a week or so but plan to remedy that soon) but I hear this some sort of 100 player ghost race that happens in real time?  What mode is that, sound ace!

That IS Trackmania. It is all 100 player real-time time-trials.

So I invited a mate over last night to have a crack on this and show him how amazing it is, only to find the split screen options are dismal. We could either play split screen with just the two of us on the same track again and again, play the same random track again and again (after waiting ages for it to create one), or play some rubbish double driver mode which was funny for about 30 seconds.

Have I missed something? Can you not play online with split screen like Mario Kart 8?

We ended up playing Borderlands The Pre-Sequel instead, utterly deflated.

No, but online isn't proper racing against people anyway. I subscribed to PS Plus again to give it a whirl, but the novelty of 100 people's ghosts time trialing wore off pretty qickly.

Stick to Mario Kart 8.

This game's all about the single player and going for golds and bettering other peoples times. And it's brilliant at that.

I was expecting to play the 100+ player online time trials, which are brilliant, in split screen. Shame :-(

It is a great online mechanic and I'd love to see it elsewhere - it would be fun in Trials and New Super Mario Bros U for example.

I much prefer seeing and actually racing against computer and friends ghosts rather than just times and checking out where I'm ranked at checkpoints and the finish. That's the principle reason I can't be arsed with online.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the next 2D Mario adding competing against friends ghosts as well as taking offline co-op online. I'd welcome both of those.

  • 1 month later...

a bit late to the game here, but I realised on Thursday there was a downloadable demo for this on the PS4 (the PSN Store is still shit for uncovering this).

Wasn't expecting much, but was hooked in about 10 minutes. Great game. Ordered it from Shopto with a few points to redeem and its the best £15 I have spent in a while!

This game can be had for as little as £17.99 now, and its on PSN for 19.99 on special offer at the moment (I think its not just for PS+ subs)

I bought this on cdkeys for £17.99. I was a bit annoyed as it was a code for uplay. Assumed it would be steam. My fault or not looking into it more.

ANYWAY.. i'm enjoying it but even with settings turned to max, it looks a bit... crap. Look stretched out on my monitor. (1080p with 16:9).

Beat the first batch of stages, most on gold.

It's a great looking game. You need glasses sir. ;)

I'm not saying that at all. It just doesn't look like any of the videos posted. It all looks stretched... i could lower the resolution and see if it makes any difference but it should make it worse not better,  The car just looks really close to the screen. Where as the video above the car is much smaller.

(it kind of was what you were saying though)

Anyway check your control panel settings to see if there's a scaling option enabled or something.

Ok fair point, i'm not saying it's not a nice looking game just that i'm sure it's not displaying properly on my PC. I'll have a google and see if anyone else having issues.

edit: hmm it seems alright now.
