You're stuck on a desert island with one arcade cabinet for company

Missile Command, Bubble Bobble, Space Invaders, PAC-MAN.

Too tough, man. Not even mentioning the usual SEGA stuff. XBLA has also made me appreciate stuff like Frogger and Paperboy, would love to see that stuff all lined up in a arcade.

Hypersports for me - great range of diverse events where one slight missed button press can ruin a perfect go at the clays or the archery, and where perfect timing can net megapoints on the pole vault. I'd set the dip switches so it was one round only too to make it more like a proper decathlon, where every point matters.

I really should try and source a cabinet, had a jamma board once but the buttons need to be just-so for proper world record attempts and my cabinet wasn't quite right.

Sega Rally (specifically the one from Milton Keynes Point foyer which used to take all my money during my lunch break) - the first game for me to incorporate force feedback steering and off road handling in a perfect package.

I used to play that game a lot in the chippy nearest my gran's and had a dream about how different people were able to play it simultaneously from fish n'chip shops all over the world using cabinets that were connected by pipes, essentially I invented the Internet and online gaming that night.

House of the dead 1 or SF2 rainbow.

Or smash TV or MK2.

Or HOTD2.

You know it just came out on ps4 for a fiver, and it has scanlines.

Does Bubble Bobble have online multiplayer?

That'd be amazing.

Why settle for 2nd best?, when you could have chosen the Final Ultimate Hardware iteration, OutRun 2 SP SDX.

Oh. Oh man. I've never seen those before. I'll take two.

My first reaction was Star Wars - a personal all-time favourite. And the sit-down cab would give you much-needed shade from that tropical sun. And those voice samples will keep me in touch with humanity.

But having seen an expert player back in the day playing on for ages, having lost his planet, I think Defender might be the one; it'll take that much longer to master.

Definitely HotD 2. Or maybe even III if I was feeling controversial. It would be some manner of lightgun game anyway.

I was going to say Ikaruga or Gigawings, but I think shmups of that kind become memory tests after a while which would drive you insane on a desert island, alone, with no one to co-op with. At least HotD has branching paths...
