Sony PSP Appreciation Thread

For me, it never got better than:

Ridge Racers 2

WipEout Pure

Arguably they’re the best games in both series and I can’t reiterate enough; WipEout Pure has the best DLC I’ve ever played with Paris Hair.

The PSP became a damp squib for myself but seeing Ridge running for the first time and using the machine for playing MP3’s and Movies on the go, it was a revelation.

Also, it had portable Outrun 2!

You did say if you were going to recommend a "portable racer".

I have never got on with Ridge Racer for whatever reason (handling related mainly I think) and nothing will likely ever top Burnout 2 as racing games in that series goes for me as all the later games are way too gimmick central.

I mentioned Sonic Racing as it is a really good portable racing game which is better than the home console versions due to the way superior control feel (something which is rare for a portable version), I time trialed the crap out of it.

Played Everyday Shooter for the first time the other day. it's very of its time, that whole abstract geometric aesthetic looks really good though, and the music is excellent. It's a real shame your dot gets so easily lost in all the whizbang visuals. Even firing to show where I was would get lost. A shame as it played well.

I'm thinking of merging this with the main PSP appreciation thread. If anyone has any objections let me know.

Probably worth just doing it.

Yeah, like in real life if I don't do it straight away it never gets done.

I can say I'll do something and legit 5 minutes later I've forgotten. The other half goes nuts.

I'm determined to finish C: Sympony of the Night. I'm a couple of hours in always seem to start it and get distracted but not this time! PSP has been parked next to my bed and I make sure to play a minimum of 20 minutes before sleep  It's the only way!

I did that a while back with Final Fantasy IV on PSP. The random battles got the better of me and I gave up, but I used to look forward to going to bed.

It's even worse now I have a Switch. I'm having to hide it in another room :o

I picked up OutRun 2006 and Ridge Racer yesterday, my new charger arrived today and I also found Dissida 012, Street Fighter Alpha Max 3, Midway Arcade Treasures and Monster Hunter Freedom 2 in CEX. Charged the PSP up but was met with the power light working but the screen being black. Held down Home and L whilst powering on fixed that and immediately booted up OutRun which is glorious (aside from the frame rate being a little lower than I was expecting).

A couple of things though. My PSP is a white one, the face buttons have yellowed a bit as has the Memory Stick flap, anything I can do go reverse that without taking it apart?

There's also a bit of watermarking round the edge of the screen that I'd like to get rid of.

I can't seem to connect to my Virgin Media Superhub.

And lastly its running on V6.60, there's no "cfw" after that so I presume at some point I switched it back to official firmware but don't remember doing so, do you still need a Pandora's Battery these days?

You can do CFW easily these days, no funny batteries required.

My white PSP hasn't been particularly happy, as mentioned previously it has that watermarking behind the screen and some bits of have yellowed but also the power slider is stiff and doesn't put the system into sleep mode anymore, it's just off or on add to that the UMD drive has been acting up, or I think it's that. It keeps bringing up the grey "Do you want to quit this game?" screen.

So I've now bought a slim and lite. The screen seems much better and it's considerably lighter than my old white one. Not too sure about just how plasticy it feels though and I think I prefer the shape of the back of the original design.

Do you mean it's physically moved in the case, or the image is displaying incorrectly?

The latter could be one of several things, like the ribbon cable coming partly detached or damaged, a display chip failing, or lots of other stuff. Replacements seem to be cheap, but fitting it might be a bugger (although I'm sure @Das could help out with that).

Can you post pix?

That's what I thought. I've tested this UMD in both my PSPs and had no luck.

Nvm fixed it. The plastic shielding over the disc had popped in a tiny bit and was stopping the disc spinning up properly
