Apparently it is/will be referred to the 2016 season, not the 16/17 season in any case. Hmm.

But, football! FOOTBALL!

The 2016 draft happens this Thursday night/Friday morning. Here's the (current) order of picks:

Round 1

10. New York Giants
11. Chicago Bears

So, what are your hopes for your team in the draft and for this season? I'm a Browns fan (sigh) - hoping we don't trade down again and pick up Ezekiel Elliot to pair up with Duke Johnson. If not, then Myles Jack would do nicely. Then again, we need a whole team pretty much, so...

... anyway, thought we might as well have a new thread as the old one was getting pretty chunky.

It's pretty funny how the two teams that swapped QBs last year did some trading to get the #1 and #2 picks in the draft, which they'll use on QBs.

That Eagles trade could end up being downright hilarious. It's the first thing that the Browns have won something in a very long time. I kinda hope that the QB they get ends up being garbage, just so the Browns fans have something to feel good about. But knowing their luck, he'll turn into a HoF QB and the trade will end up being a genius move by the Eagles.

I was reading Myles Jack might slide due to some injury concerns revealed on a medical report? I didn't read it properly so it might be just speculation!

Packers fan looking for us to try and find some strength and depth for both offensive and defensive lines.

And please, please an Inside LB who's ready to play!

Who you fancy in the first round? Common picks seem to be Ragland if he's available or one of the DT's if he's not.

I don't follow the college games, so I'm not best placed to make calls on who could possibly be the best pick for us.

Just from watching us last season I'd like those lines strengthened. Getting Jordy back will be a plus, and hopefully some other faster route runners/separation, so Rodgers doesn't have to try and hold on the the ball for a week before passing.

The division is looking stronger than it has been for a while. If we get the draft and other signings right we could be there or there about at the end of the season. Get it wrong and we probably won't make the play-offs.

Why the new thread?

On topic: Rams must really want someone bad. They gave up an awful lot to get first pick!

Just thought the old one was a little bit chunky and having a fresh thread for the new season would be good :). If peeps want this tacked into the original thread then that's cool, though!

The Myles Jack thing is interesting. So many rumours floating around - one that certain teams lower in the draft are stoking the injury rumour fire to spook teams above them, one that his agent is hugely underplaying the thing and his knee is genuinely very bad. Shame really, as in terms of ability he's this year's Khalil Mack.

What I imagine the Browns will do is trade out of 8th with the Dolphins or Raiders if Elliott is still on the board, which is a shame. We need explosive, exciting talents. Then again, our new management structure is due some patience. What I will be miffed at, mind, is if - and this is a big if, because it's unlikely to happen - Jalen Ramsey is available and we pass on him. The guy is such an exciting player, and he can play corner or safety. We need both.

How long have the Rams been in LA?

Cowboys fan. I'd love, love love to see them pick up a decent young QB who's willing to learn from Romo for the next couple of seasons. I said it in the last thread, but currently Romo is the absolute linchpin of the team, and when he's injured they go to utter shit. They can't bank on him being healthy for the next few years, given how injury prone he is after all those back operations and broken collarbones, so they need to develop someone to replace him. They won't though. They never do.

I don't follow college football, so I've literally no idea who any of the players in the draft are. I expect the Cowboys to make some utterly bizarre choices though, as usual.

The general vibe is you guys will snap up Elliott at Running Back or Ramsey, both of whom I would love at the Browns. If you get either one then a) damn you! and b) it'll be a potentially great pick :hat:

Rams have been in LA for... er... about 3 months now! Well, discounting the years they were there before (they left LA for St. Louis in 1994).

 A thousand times this.

But probably this.

It's so painfully obvious that we fall apart without him that it's beyond parody we've gone all this time without a rookie to train in his wake. I don't know how many dried up substitutes in their 30s we have to try before we realize that.

Even though I do follow college football, I only really know Big Ten players so I'm still at a loss with the draft.

Problem is, I don't think this is a great QB class. I am really glad we (Browns) aren't going after Goff or Wentz. Paxton Lynch is interesting, but the Bills might take him lower in the 1st which I think is still a little high for him. Connor Cook has talent, but apparently a giant ego and wasn't popular in the Michigan dressing room.

But Romo is getting pretty injury-prone so yeah, you guys need a backup from one of the next few drafts. Cardele Jones might be worth a flier in the 2nd or 3rd!

Speaking of Michigan, Rudock played really well at Iowa, and then I didn't pay much attention after his traitorous switch to Michigan. I thought he was doing pre med so I'm surprised to see him in the draft. Not going to lie, I'd love to see an Iowa player join Dallas. I was gutted Ricki Stanzi got drafted to the Chiefs a few years ago, that could have been the time to train a Romo replacement. He bombed at the Chiefs though, so. Stanzi reminded me so much of Romo though, taking his sweet time in the pocket. But then he'd do something absurd and win a game from nowhere.

My work colleague is a big Hawkeyes guy - was telling me about him turning them into a powerhouse on NCAA 13 on the PS3 the other day!

Meanwhile, if we run true to form then expect this from the Browns' new recruits this season.

Go Phins! Sure another 7-9 season awaits, but what wins those 7 victories will be!

Intrigued by which 4th round Draft pick will end up being a Hall of Famer while the top picks go on to have fair-to-middling NFL careers. Wentz does look decent though...

Appears to be such a difference in NFL / College play styles though; out of interest why don't they compliment each other more? Or is it a case of so few players turning pro that colleges are unlikely to look out for anyone but their own programs?

This has become quite dramatic. 10 minutes before the draft Laremy Tunsil's Twitter account posted a video of him bonging it up. Now he's in draft free-fall. Myles Jack still sitting there - feel really sorry for him. Not so much for Tunsil.

Damn, Cowboys picking up Ezekiel Elliot from the Buckeyes. He put in back to back 1800 yard seasons.

edit - let me put that into perspective. The entire Hawkeyes team rushed for 2500 yards last season, while this guy picks up 1800 himself (team totaled 3100).

Nice.

Tunsil went to the Phins in the end. Some weirdness with him too, his stepfather has filed suit for defamation and assault against him. The Ravens were going to take him, then they saw that video and we apparently removed him from our draft board entirely.

That knee injury (and the possibility of surgery) with Myles Jack is the big sticking point. I thought Oakland would take him.

Elliott is a great pick by Dallas. Jerry Jones probably had nothing to do with it, then. ;)

Browns selected Corey Coleman (WR) out of Baylor. Not entirely convinced but he did have a very nice college career and won the Biletnikoff Award last year too so there's some hope. Just have to hope Hue Jackson can revive RG3's career, which is a big question mark.

We have four picks tonight, including the first. I just hope we don't go and use it on Connor Cook. Myles Jack is still there, but all teams passing on him makes me think that his knee problem must be genuinely pretty bad.

Second round about to kick off. Apparently we're not trading. Please please please be Noah Spence, Reggie Ragland or Myles Jack.

EDIT: Spence gone to the Bucs, Ragland to the Bills and Jack to the Jaguars. We got Ogbonnah, who to be fair is exciting as a pass-rush dude.

But holy shit, that Jags defense. They took Tashuan Gipson off us who is a great safety, they have Jalen Ramsey, Myles Jack and Dante Fowler Jr. Playoffs here they come.

Moritz Boerhinger goes to the Vikings, becoming the first (I think) International player to be drafted without playing college ball.

Great story. Never picked up a football until 4 years ago, after seeing a video of Adrian Peterson. A Vikes fan.

Took up the sport not long after and was a star in the German Football League. Impressed in his Pro Day earlier in April, and ends up getting taken by his favourite team. :)

Sports can be great sometimes.

Well after watching lots of tape and highlights I'm pleased with the Packers draft class. I think Clark (DT), Fackrell (OLB) and Martinez (LB) will all get snaps and contribute. Especially Clark with Raji taking a break from football. Spriggs looks a good pick and a future starter but will provide very good cover should we suffer injuries like we did last season on the OL. Got to protect #12!

The other players taken Dean Lowry (DE), Trevor Davis (WR), Kyle Murphy (OT) might not contribute a lot this season but will make the roster. I guess the most likely would be Lowry with Pennel missing the first 4 games due to suspension. Davies as a returner could happen too although we have some good returners already with Janis and Ty Montgomery.

Nice combination of players helping now and also providing stability going forward with 3 of the 5 starting OL in a contract year and several OLB also in a contract year. Injuries aside (as with every team) I think it should be an exciting season.

NFL offseason is FAR TOO LONG!

Anyone watched All or Nothing: A Season with the Arizona Cardinals?  It's currently on Amazon Prime and is pretty damn good (even if you're not a Cardinals fan).  Similar to Hard Knocks but follows the team through the season and playoffs.

I've been watching it. I still have a couple of episodes to go. Good documentary and some interesting insights to things going on behind the scenes. I do find it funny how much of their team meetings seem to be taking up with people having parked in reserved parking bays.

Mind you in general people in the NFL need stop doing things on three every moment of the day. Coffee on three. Three, two, one... COFFEE!

I binge watched it last week and recommended it in the Film and TV forum I thought it was that good. I wish they was a bit more football related content but understand they don't want to release that kind of information. Based on that show though you basically just need to be a motivational speaker in the most simplistic of ways. "GET OUT THERE AND FUCKING DESTROY THEM! Break it down."

But overall thought it was a great watch.

Johnny, prepare yourself for episode 7 I think it is. I almost had to stop watching it as I knew what was coming.

Hard Knocks will be interesting this year too actually, new location for the Rams. QB Battle.
