NFL and NCAA Season 2016 (newcomers and salty veterans welcome!)

Injuries in pre-season always seem tougher to take than when the season starts proper.

Feel sorry for Romo, he gets far too much stick for the teams he's had in front of him.

How does everyone think they'll do this year? I think if the Steelers can keep Brown, Bell and Ben on the pitch at the same time, they can put some serious number up on offence.

I think we should make the play offs again (Packers), but would be surprised if we have enough depth on either side of the ball to challenge for a ring.

Where'd you think we're lacking? I think we've got more than enough to challenge for a ring. Obviously with need to be lucky with injuries like any team but I think there's enough quality to win it all. Especially if Rodgers can get back to more like himself and Nelson and Cobb stay healthy.

I think the defence will be better again this season too, with the lack of DL bodies at the moment my only concern.  Our secondary is looking strong especially with a couple of UFA players looking pretty good in preseason so far and probably earning roster spots (Brice, Hawkins and Daniel showed flashes). Although not much experience outside of Burnett, Shields and Ha-Ha.

I'm optimistic for the season!

Just remembered. The Punter situation is a little weird. Had 2 competing in camp and pre-season to get rid of both and go with option C. And that option C was worse than Masthay last season...

Strange one.

The punter situation is very bizarre. I can only assume both punters must have been awful in camp, but picking up someone the Bucs freed isn't inspiring.

I think my main concerns are possibly worries after last season. We lost Nelson and the offense collapsed. Hopefully we can avoid any major injuries on that and having strengthen at TE our options should be better. We still need some of the younger WR's to make an impact as well. I also hope that Lacy is back to his best this year.

I still think our offensive line is weak, and I'd like more competition for the defensive line slots. The offset to that being if our receivers stay fit and get separation quicker then Rodgers won't have to hold onto the ball for a week. Last season was open day on hitting Rodgers as we were so slow.

Why your team sucks by Deadspin are pretty funny. Yesterday was the turn of the packers

http://deadspin.com/why-your-team-sucks-2016-green-bay-packers-1785957366

"This is team that completed three Hail Marys and was blessed with God knows how many phantom face mask calls going in their favor last season, all because God just loves his little dipshit Ned Flanders NFL franchise. "

" The Packers have now lost seven playoff games under Mike McCarthy. FIVE of them were on the last play of the game."

The guy writing it is a vikings fan, so after the news yesterday it was probably quite cathartic to write that.

Oh God, I'm reading the steelers one. Roethlisberger is called Rapey McGreypenis

"This is an offense that is the best in football only in theory, because none of its best players are ever on the field at the same time. It’s Big Ben playing with 10 Josh Gordons."

So true, either injured or suspended for peds/dope :(

I have a good feeling my Titans wont quite suck as much as they have the last few seasons and my even post a 8-8 record in the end.

The ground game has looked pretty potent in pre season and I really like Mariota and if he stays healthy I can see him having a great season.

I do worry about our defence a little though, especially our DB's, who are still pretty weak as a unit.

They're always great fun. Wait until they're done and they post a round up of people who don't get the joke and email in complaints. Last year's one from the Texans was particularly great:

I'm surprised you're worried about the O-Line. Two of the best guards in football and Bakhtiari and Bulaga aren't bad tackles either. Think they've got enough bodies to cover any injuries too this time round.

Hopefully we won't have the same injury issues with WR's this year. Cobb was clearly carrying something during the season. Ty Montgomery and his dicky ankle. Adams had some issues as well as the drops. We were replying on Janis and Abbrederis come playoff time pretty much. No wonder the offence stagnated/struggled.

Cook has looked great in preseason so far and seems to clicking with 12 already.

As for the Punter situation. Both were hit and miss in camp but did alright in the pre-season games from what I saw. Just seems weird to use them for 2-3 months and then bin them both and get someone who was statistically worse in.

I think like most teams our season will depend on keeping key players healthy.

I have to admit I'm a little disappointed that Bridgewater got injured, as I though there could be a very good divisional battle between the Vikings and us this year.

Really looking forward to the new season getting underway. There go my Sunday nights for the next few months. :D

Set up a weekly pick 'em league for the upcoming season:

It's fantasy football lite for those who haven't done it before you just pick your winners each week.

Also I've done a survivor league. You pick one team each week if they win you stay in, if that team loses you're out. Last one in wins!

Come one come all, the more the merrier.

As the pre season draws to a close just a reminder about these, a bit of fun and the more that join the better. :)

I keep forgetting about the sports forum. Anyway, so psyched for football, even though we dropped NCAA from the thread title. Seemingly the whole city wore black gold to school/work yesterday for the Hawkeye's first game today. I'm even watching a game I don't give a monkey's about, University of OK versus Houston (it's been decent, so far).

It might be time for me to retire my Aikman shirt and buy a Romo. Perhaps that'll make the Cowboys play better.

The upcoming season feels different going in. I feel the field is a bit more level than it has been in a long time - but sadly i think it is because the better teams have regressed rather than the chasing pack improving.

Agree about Pitt having the weapons. Although i believe Tomlin is good for causing you 2 or 3 losses a year.

Pats should be ok (Its ok i live in Boston).. A player to look out for (If he remains on the main roster after todays cuts) is AJ Derby. He is obviously going to be behind at least Gronk and Bennett but he has really impressed in camp and preseason.

Going to watch Badgers in a bit  and not sure about tonight yet

Worst "I'm on holiday" post ever but, drove past this place yesterday.  It is insane the number of people who basically are treating this as a four day holiday.  (Well, longer, judging by the number of LSU fans who have driven massive great motorhomes up here.)

Rectified the thread title missing NCAA :hat:

Excellent game between the Sooners and Houston to kick off my yearly viewing earlier.

Holy shit, that hit from LSU #76. Badgers deserve this for that alone. Edit- although I'm biased for Big Ten teams.

Yeah, I need to get up to Green Bay some time, it's not that far a drive.

Edit- first badgers unranked win against an ap ranked team since 85.

absolute cheap shot, he needs to be suspended for quite a few games for that.

Watched A&M shoot themselves in the foot to just about limp over the finish line against UCLA. The rankings are really weird because it was being talked about like a massive upset if UCLA won, but they were ranked and the Aggies weren't. I know the rankings are just based on polls and supercomputers but are we supposed to ignore them for the first few weeks?

Well, there are teams that are perpetually ranked, and then teams like Iowa who have only been ranked for a couple of seasons for the last 8 years I've watched them. We're ranked off the back of an immense 12-1 season, but every team has enough seniors leave that you never know how you'll transition the following year.

That's what I was thinking, even alabama being number 1 seems to be on the hype instead of what they have in their squad.

Edit: I say that after watching the first quarter where usc are winning by 3 and they're talking about saban being worried about being ranked #1. Just seen the final score....

I'm in a fantasy NFL league with some people on another forum.  I had two mates help with the draft, and they seem pleased with my team.

This image has all the teams in the league on it. Mine are bottom left, Baz's Bumbandits.  What does everyone here think of my chances? :)

I was 9th pick (out of ten) and it was a snake draft.

Not saying if good or bad, but for comparison here are the positions your guys were picked in a ten team league I'm in. As i said a few posts back - its an interesting year and i think most players probably have a wide range of where they have been selected.

Newton (20th - Last pick of second round)

Rberger 54th  (6.4)

Elliott 8th (1.8 - by Me :-)  )

Murray  45th (5.5)

Foster 97th  (10.7)

Jennings 99th (10.9)

Thomas 38th (4.8)

Fitz 92nd (10.2)

Diggs 104th (11.4)

Jackson 129th (13.9)

Witten  136th (14.6)

Bennett 66th (7.6)
