I never understand people who half watch things while doing other stuff. If you're not going to pay attention for the full experience then why bother? You might as well listen to music in mono. Or play AAA games on a Switch.

I really enjoyed this. I think the Punisher, Lieberman and Russo lift it a bit higher than its objective merits, and it does that Netflix/Marvel thing of pretending to have something to say about a serious subject (PTSD) while not really doing so, but I was carried along very nicely, and I felt like the emotional moments were largely earned.

And the action is brutal.

Finished episode 6. There's one thing I could see coming a mile away

Spoiler

Former brother in arms, leader of anvil being a bad guy. I guess if they picked a different actor it wouldn't have been so obvious, but they went for the tall dark hair dark eyes dodgy looking fellow that could easily play the villain in any movie.

That, and

Spoiler

the company being named Anvil just seemed evil in itself. I'm not even sure why, it just comes across that way to me.

Spoiler

The company name should have been New Beginnings, chairman played by Ricky Gervais!

Finished this today and thought it was great stuff:

Spoiler

Think it’s my best Marvel series so far due to the distinct lack of Marvelness involved, no ninjas or mystics or anything crazy like that.

thought it told the story well and while a bit hamfisted at points made some good points re: PTSD and they even managed to sneak in a bit of gun control too.

The violence was a lot less than I expected but was pretty hard hitting when it happened, didn’t really know much of the back story about the character apart from this and DD S2 but have heard that it was quite accurate.

His healing ability was second to none though.

If I got the ending right they blamed everything on Lewis and Billy and everyone knew he was still alive?

Spoiler

I think as far as the world at large goes, Frank Castle is once again dead. They're given him the Pete identity, but this time complete with all the official I.D.

On that note, one plot hole that bothered me no end, unless I'm wrong - Billy supposedly always thought Frank died in the park with his family, but his shenanigans and trial were very public throughout Daredevil season 2.

Wrong on both counts, I think.

Spoiler

The world knows Castle is alive and a wanted man. But also that he didn't do the bombing or kill loads of cops during the recent issues etc. But the CIA have replaced his fingerprint and DNA data on file with those of a random dead guy, so if he lies low, his chances of being caught are minimal.

Russo knew he was alive after the attack, but thought he'd actually died after DD Season 2, when he's faked his death. Curt knew, Russo didn't.

Episode 10:

Spoiler

Damn, what a move when Frank picked that dead guy up to shield himself from bullets. And then he jumps down a stairwell on the end of a fire hose!!

The action has definitely ramped up now. All the better because of the slow, careful build up in previous episodes.

All I need to know is, 'is this good?'  I thoroughly enjoyed Daredevil 1 and Jessica Jones, found Daredevil 2 meandering but acceptable and then couldn't finish Luke Cage after the focus of the series changed.  I have not been able to bring myself to watch Iron Fist or the Defenders after the negative feedback.

Yes it's good.

If I was to make a tier list it would be something like:

Daredevil S1 - probably still the best

Punisher - very close

Daredevil S2 - amazing Punisher stuff but only good for the first half

Jessica Jones - great villain

Luke Cage - just really bland

Defenders - a few good bits but bleh

Iron Fist - utter shite

Finished it yesterday. Overall, very impressed. It's far more slow and pensive than most people will be expecting, but that pace really suits an antihero struggling with his inner demons. From comments I'm reading online, it's like people were expecting it to go from 0 to Punisher in ten seconds flat, so I applaud Netflix for choosing a more mature and interesting direction.

This is Frank Castle before he's consumed by the Punisher, with his previous life choices pulling him back into new wars. He's conflicted, and still wants some kind of 'normal' life at the end of it, and you end up wanting it for him too despite knowing that he's doomed to fail. The same way that his occasional chuckles, when him and Micro are busting each others' balls, become moments that you cling to like a life belt.

I do think at times that it was too determined to isolate itself from the Marvel universe, though. Little things really. Like when one of the characters muses on how quickly people returned to normalcy after the towers fell. Surely an alien invasion, which occurred more recently to boot, would've been the more obvious example?

That is exactly where I was, no interest in either of the last two. This is excellent though, Bernthal is great even if the actual plot is a bit two dimensional. Up there with S1 Daredevil for me although that slightly edges it because of Fisk.

Finished episode 12.....jesus that was the dispence of some  righteous justice. This show has blown my mind.

Just seen it myself. That episode was the birth of full Punisher Frank done so well. Literal tears at the emotion and horror of just one word...

HOME.

Utterly fucking amazing. That's all I can say.

I was a little worried going into this because I didn't love The Defenders as much as many others and I saw a few mixed reviews but I am now 6 episodes in and it is my favorite Netflix Marvel show by far (unless we go a full 180 in the second half of the season or something else awful).

Agreed. They did a god job of merging Franks sadness and anger together, in a way that made Frank appear vulnerable and fragile, despite his extremely violent actions.

I recently discovered that Josh Wendon dislikes The Punisher:

"One of the things I like about the X-Men is they're not killing people. I miss the idea of... heroes who stop that kind of thing from happening. Here's why I'm not running Marvel: If I was, I would kill the Punisher. I don't believe in what he does. The Punisher just shoots up places. And if you're telling me he's never hit an innocent, then I'm telling you, that's fascist crap".
