Xbox One X

my bone X is vertical.

it died a few days after I got it, probably from being horizontal in my tower of doom. So when I got it back, and being mostly digital*,  I decided upright was best.

I bought a stand.

* thanks to gamepass, and games with gold,

I'm sure this question has come up before, but anyway....

I don't have Gold but I do have GamePass paid up till October. I'd be up for the new fancy all-in-one thing, but does anyone know how that would work with excess time already paid for? Would it be a better idea to just wait till October?

Ah, wrong thread, sorry, didn’t notice this was an X thread specifically.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm going to chuck this here for want of posting it somewhere better. Yes, this may be small fry, but this sort of shit really annoys me.

My son wants to change his gamertag for valid reasons. He picked the gamertag himself when he set the account up a few years ago. Because of this, MS want £7.99 to change it. Fair enough. Because he is family, I have to authorise the payment and add funds to his account. Again, ok. Except, the minimum you can add is £10. I know it's only £2.01 more, but why can I not just add the correct amount for the transaction? How much money do they make of these small extra bits that people need to pay? Why charge this amount when it applies to family accounts when they must know you can't add the correct funds to the family account?

I feel like somewhere, someone is like this with all these little extra payments...

It's like they get the leftover though; it's still in that account. Can't you add a payment method to that account and then remove it?

I'm not sure, but I shouldn't have to. And it's not like I can take the remainder out, so it'll get spent somewhere in the eco system.

I wish I knew someone with an X so I could compare it to mine, I'd be up for doing the thermal paste on mine if it is louder but I'm not sure if I'm being over sensitive to the noise.

My X is noticeably noisy when on, especially compared to my whisper quiet launch Xbox One. I would compare it to my standard PS4 in noise levels, both can be quite jarring when trying to play games later in the night with the volume turned down.

That's not right. The only time I can hear my X at all is when it's spinning a Blu Ray.

Hmm, a tad concerning, have only had it a couple of months from Amazon (cheap Fallout 76 bundle). Next time I use it will try and record the noise. Is yours dead quiet when running?

If I put my ear up to it I can just about hear it.

They definitely vary. I’m on my second. The first was pretty much silent unless you put your ear up close like others have mentioned. My current one, while in no way loud is notably more noisy than the first.

I've got an X, and if you are still in Kent I'm only up the road.

My X went noisy a few weeks before it started shutting down due to overheating. After changing the thermal paste it's quiet even with RDR2 / Hitman on.

If it's under warranty, send it back.

Mind did the same. It was out of warranty so I purchased a new one. I’ll pay to have the old one fixed and then sell it on, not quite confident enough to open it up and apply thermal paste myself.

I've re- thermal pasted four x's now, three of them wouldnt boot with E 200 errors, all were super loud, all four totally fine and whisper silent now.
It's really really easy to do, just be brave and do it!
All you need is a Torx T8 and a T10 screwdriver (with security bit i.e. the little hole) some thermal paste and some thermal paste remover, a few cotton wool buds, some kitchen towel (for removing all the old paste) a youtube video and a couple of hours at the most even for the cautious.
