Civilization VI - Civ on the streets, Civ in the sheets

Not sure I like the new movement changes for rivers and hills. Much more thought is going to be required for city placement and what districts you build. Cleopatra has already said hello, jiggled her tits at me and then denounced me for being too weak, all in the space of 20 turns

Already there is more personality with the leaders/civilisations than there was in 5. Harold wasn't impressed I transitioned government from a chiefdom for instance.

I expect Spork is keeping a close eye on my tallied hours so he can slut shame me again on this version

Hi,

I'm not really experienced in PC gaming - can someone answer me a simple question?

When I start this I get an error message saying "No compatible graphics device found"...

I have a Nvidia Geforce GT 230 with the most recent drivers.    I have just checked the min specs and it says "Graphics: 1 GB & AMD 5570 or nVidia 450"

Does that mean that I need to upgrade my card from a 230 to something over 450?  Is it that simple?  And can I assume I can't play until I get a new card?

Correct. Why did you think you'd manage with such a weak card?

I started a random game as Russia last night. They seem to have changed everything other than the look, it's going to take some getting used to.

Okay cool thanks.  I assumed I could run it since the only game I play is Civ 5 and that runs great, but yeah thinking about it this card must be 4 years old or so.

Any recommendation for new card?  Under £100

You may be OK though. This is copied from a post elsewhere where a guy is running the game with a pretty low spec:

"

Intel (R) HD Graphics
Intel Pentium N3540
DX11
2GB RAM
64mb VRAM (not sure about this)

Note:
1. It's laptop by the way
2. I played it on ALL low settings (all settings that can be unchecked were unchecked, all settings that can be disabled were disabled)
3. No leader animations YET
4. Quick combat and quick movement enabled
5. I'm going to try enabling leader animations, disabling quick combat and movement, and experimenting on graphics settings
6. I'm also going to try to experiment on ini files
7. Moderator Action: <SNIP> YEAH!!!! IT WORKS!!!!!!!"

It was commented that he may run into trouble on big maps so if you keep your ambitions in check, no reason why it shouldn't be fine :)

*edit* Didn't realise you already had the game. This post is pretty pointless to you then. Sorry!

Thanks for the info anyway!

I've managed to grab a GT520 card from a 'spares' machine in my garage, and now playing!  I honestly don't get why I've been using this older card all this time

I remember running civ 5 on a crappy laptop and you really had to stick to small maps. Bigger ones would take several minutes between turns in late game.

Does turn time come down to the PC's Ram and CPU, or graphics card?

It definitely plays a lot slower. Not sure I like the cutesy art style, and still getting used to the new UI.

Also, what's the deal with terrain only being full coloured immediately around your units and city, even though you've discovered it?

Not got Civ 6 yet, but surely the full coloured tiles are ones you can actually see. If you haven't got a unit in range then other civ units will be able to move through them unseen.

That's most likely it, it just looks a bit odd

Would a kind soul be willing to front me the game from CDKeys and I'll pay you back over paypal next week when I get paid? Bit of an ask, sorry about that but I'm desperate to play this. If it's not possible then it's ok, I can wait,

I'm on about 10 hours or so in the first game as England and I'm quite liking the fact that I'm not really "getting it" yet. I raked up 400 hours on 5 since January which isn't as impressive as some of my forum brethren but I ended up playing it pretty much the same and unless the balancing is really off, it seems you can't play it like that, which in my mind is a good thing.

I like the 'boost' idea towards certain techs etc depending on how you play, I can see that coming into play more in later playthroughs, not to mention the whole city / ditrict planning being a lot more important than is perhaps immediately apparent.

I'm only on Prince or 'normal' whichever is in the middle so I'm probably slacking considering I've battered every single Sid Meier game since Colonization but I'm liking the fact there seems to be a genuine learning curve. I could pretty much 'win' V using the same tactics and it seems that how you play can have a noticeable effect.

I'm 'alive' without any actual war by modern era as England with Teddy Roosevelt ahead on technologies etc but I've got a funny feeling it's about to all go horribly wrong.

In my mind, so far, it's a very good update in that it's generally familiar enough but there's a lot of stuff to work out to play it really well - or whether I mean I've not learn how to 'game' it,  I'm not sure...

The only thing that does get on my tits is that either I'm fundamentally misunderstanding or the trading with other civs is equally as stupid as V, like for like Luxury goods often doesn't work and I've attempted to  change the deal and then after that not working, going back to the original idea and them deciding against the very thing they proposed in the first place....

There's a massive chance I'm "doing it wrong" but in my mind, luxury goods have equal worth and as long as the civ has more than one of it, they should trade with you?

As said, it seems at the moment that it's a good sequel; in regards to having immediate familiarity but with enough new stuff to get to grips with.

I just can't bring myself to go military

Started a game with the specific intent of hammering my opponent for a Domination win, but old Mvemba just wants to be friends and follow my religious teachings. Now I'm dithering mid-game over building my army or putting everything into religious focus.
