Right then, Xbox One is now a pointless console, why buy one when Scorpio is out next year?

Why buy a PS4 when the other one is due? I dunno, it's not like either machine is poor. I appreciate I speak from the position of owning both, mind.

Ish. A new gen doesn't usually allow you to play all previous stuff.

Yeah I think it's best to think of this as a new generation that happens to have good BC and not bank on the new stuff working on the old one in acceptable form for very long at all.

Because how long do they keep that up?  Are they going to tie themselves into not making full use of a new generation forever? Because they also just postponed a "real" new generation till at least 2021.

I agree that you'd be dumb to buy either now when both companies are making them obsolete.

Spec wise it's gonna stomp what we know of the PS4.5

The game comparison thread is due a massive delivery of salt sometime next year.

Ha yeah!  Some people's consoles are going to be better than other people's consoles and boy are they going to type some words about it on the internet!

Well that's consoles into the regular update model like smartphones then.

The thing about smartphones is, apps stop working on older devices eventually.

They're trying to make out that'll never happen here.

You could see that's what MS were planning right from the off with the xbox basically being a pc, with a  hypervisor running a bunch of vm's....they should have an easier ride of it (techincally) because of this than Sony... I'd expect to see a lot more Universal App games coming out to cope with this..

That's true but that means its true for the Xbox too. I've put off a PS4 purchase because of the rumours.

They're tying everything to a PC model. Microsoft are *much* better placed to do that than Sony.

However, Xbox - that'll be no console exclusives any longer then.

That's supposedly out this year though (and btw I think the Neo is a bad idea). They just ended their show actually using words like 'compromised' to describe their current console (just after announcing a new model of it) and then announcing a better one is out... but in 18 months. If I didn't have an Xbox but was thinking about getting one, this would certainly make me think twice.

Ish. I haven't seen them go into the specifics, have you?

No Crackdown? :(

Crackdown was in that montage at the end, odd that it wasn't in the show proper.

This.

Can someone please explain to me why six, over five (perhaps less you might even consider) is such a big deal? And how it is such a big deal when 'nobody gets left behind'?

I guess it depends if you want to spend $299 on the games out in the 18 month interim. That said, the closer we get to scorpio launch, the stupider that would be for non-owners.

That said, how many 360/PS3 owners haven't converted, yet?

I agree but that again means they've got to abandon xbox 1 original support at some point.

I guess MS don't mind killing the entire reason for consoles to exist since they expect to still get those sales on PC. Maybe? Whole thing is totally insane to me, VR is nowhere close to being mainstream enough to justify these moves.

Very little in the way of new game announcements.

They rarely do though, preferring to focus on short to medium term things.  Apart from Scalebound and Sea of thieves, pretty much everything shown had a release date attached.
