Post after post in...shall we say, certain, threads....describing a game as 'amazing' whilst only talking about its graphics.

Completely dismaying.

Here's a challenge to anyone saying X game is amazing: tell me how but without reference to its graphics.

You press X and then you kill a deer to impress your father. I have never had such a deep and meaningful relationship with my own father so I am tearing up right now.

It looks like a great reinvention of the series with more character depth, an interesting relationship, not just 'PRESS X AND SMASH SHIT' gameplay; but when you do smash shit, it's still visceral and brutal fun.

Look, graphics are obviously part of the experience. You can't completely discount them, otherwise we'd all flog our high end PCs and play Risk instead.

Well, at a press conference we don't have a huge amount to go on, and graphics are a big part of what we do have, and those graphics were fucking phenomenal.

But apart from that I thought the combat looked nicely visceral, and I thought that the little story between the man and his son was amazing. I'd look forward to more of that quality of storytelling in the final game.

It's so obvious that it doesn't need saying.

The point is that increasingly you see a lot of talk about videogames that LARGELY is a conversation about how good the game looks.

Good graphics are not compelling gameplay, for fuck's sake. It's so annoying to see gamers selling gaming short for the sake of NOICE GRAPHICS.

If a game is actually a good game, i.e. a thing that you play then you should be able to talk about with the visuals coming last in the conversation.
