Alien: Covenant - 2017 - Ridley Scott

What the hell was this.

Nothing really happened bar a load of disjointed sequences, and it wasn't frightening at all.

I don't get quite how anyone thought this edited together well.

Thinking back over it, the closest comparison in terms of tone would be those internet projects where everyone gets 60 seconds of Star Wars to remake and they put it together into one movie.

I still think it has tremendous (unintentional) entertainment value and will some day have a cult following for being completely barmy.

Allen's Top Ten Seven

1. Alien

2. Aliens

3. Alien Isolation

4. Alien Ressurection

5. Alien 3

6. Prometheus

7. Covenant

Ignoring Prometheus and the Isolation...

There are now officially more bad Alien movies (3, R, C) than good (Alien, Aliens)

:(

AvP isnt terrible its ok for easy watching but Requiem is garbage and ruins two iconic beasties :( i got an Alien 3 poster with Sega Power and it gave me nightmares but somehow Xenomorphs have been watered down so much they barely register, unless i felt one drooling on my shoulders then pouncing on me

I havent seen Prometheus for a while but it was boring from what i recall. Disappointed about the chat around Covenant.

 Managed around 35 minutes

Those were some of the better minutes, too. You should watch the rest just to see what happens when you give three writers a third of a film each.

I haven't -and probably never will- get round to watching the AvP films. I'd rather just play Isolation again.

I'm almost positive that the AvP movies are better than Covenant.

AvP is not a million miles away from Covenant in terms of tone or quality - it plays similarly fast and loose with the Alien mythos, and it's similarly overwrought, although Covenant goes for camp horror and weirdness, whereas AvP goes for straight action. Both films are the kind of thing you'd start watching at 10pm on ITV2 on a Saturday, and inexplicably end up seeing through to the end. They're classic satiscraptory entertainment.

AvP2 has no redeeming features whatsoever, and is murky, unimaginative, and above all incredibly boring.

Agreed.  Watched AVP last month and is was ok.  AVP 2 is an unmitigated disaster of a film

Whenever anyone says, "It's one of the worst things I've ever seen" the predictable reaction tends to be, "Huh, you've clearly not seen that many films".

Well, I've seen a fucking shitload of films and AVP2 is one of the worst things I've ever seen.

Well, it ranks up there with Kevin Costner's 'The Postman' and the Avengers movie...the one where Sean Connery dresses up in a teddy bear costume.

Actually, thinking about it both of those were probably worse.

Sean in a teddy bear costume...

God in heaven.

Just saw this.

Actually quite liked it! One or two glaring procedure-related holes aside.

Now I'm going to read the thread and in an hour or so end up hating the movie lol.

EDIT: you bastards! now I hate this thing! :-)

As a previous poster mentioned, LIFE runs rings around this movie and I have similar feelings about it.

Kinda wish I had read the novelisation of this instead. I'm picking up that the novelisation addresses some of the issues with the movie, i.e.;

Q: Why did they take off their helmets?
A: In the novelisation they do extensive testing and find zero pathogens on the planet. When they land, they stay helmeted up until Walter does an extensive set of scans locally. Then later in the book David explains that the Engineer WMD is designed to be dormant - even if scanned directly it can evade most advanced methods of detection.
