“It will be out before the Olympics,” said Kojima, referring to the Tokyo 2020 Games.

:omg:

He then went on, “To go a little further, there is a movie called Akira, and it will be out before the year in which Akira is set.”

:omg::omg:

You never know, it might even be out before Final Fantasy VII Remake and Shenmue 3.

Nah, surely everyone was expecting that? Even heard a few people predict 2019 on podcasts, personally I think it's more likely to be 2020 and on what is essentially PS5 but there you go. If Sony has given TheLastGuardian 10 or so years I think they will give Kojima 3-4 if he needs it (He will). He generally spends about 5 years on a big game if he can. Though he has mentioned this is an indie game so perhaps it's more of a small experiment more than a big AAA game. In which case it could potentially be 2018-19

Nah, Kojima always explores and often utilizes the full potential of the medium. This is one of the most exciting things to happen to the industry imo, combining AAA values with this kind of artistic merit. Can't wait to see how it will all work out.

Just going out on a limb, but thematically it seems to play with the idea of protecting an "artistic baby", letting it come to fruition etc, with Del Toro carrying one and the dead one in the first teaser (and the dolls).

Crazy theory time!

World is poisoned and Babies are premium currency as they act like a filter keeping you alive.

Gameplay wise I think your life/magical powers has to be linked to the baby; perhaps you want to bait and snatch other people's whilst taking care not to accidently kill one. Your babies will probably evolve over time depending on choices or style of play, there's going to be some kind of risk/reward aspect between dumping the little one to keep it safe or embracing the crazy powers they give...

Hype!

Kojima always had an interesting and forward thinking vision (the way MGS2 handled the internet for instance) and that trailer is cool as fuck. Guns of the Patriots and Phantom Pain also had that edginess, but were too rambling in the end. I hope that the involvement of someone like Del Toro will help make the vision more cohesive and consistently interesting. But yeah, great to see Kojima's vision for a new IP.

Maybe it's an AR game and you have to find and collect baby corpses in the street on your mobile device.
