Yes but my point is the pitch wasnt cleared, not the refs fault. Way less mad than giving a pen and then a free kick the opposite way after it was scored. One is passive, the other is insanely over active.

Seeing as Spurs no longer Spurs it, can we change it so that Liverpool now have a habit of Liverpooling it?

May as well, but we've been doing that for 26 years now so its nothing new.

Wtf is going on at Newcastle? They got a penatly, converted it, ref dissalowed the goal and gives a freekick to Burton. I cant fine any info on why it was dissalowed.

Yeah, I was wondering if anyone was able to shed any light on it as well. How on earth do you get a penalty disallowed? It might have been encroachment, but that results in the penalty being retaken, not just disallowed, doesn't it?

It can only have been for a foul that happened as the kick was being taken. If it happened before the kick, then the ref can't give a freekick, as the ball wasn't in play. The foul must have occurred as the ball was in flight! Or possibly during the run-up? Pretty bizarre refereeing.

Edit - yep, I managed to miss this whole page of discussion.

mental on 88mins I saw the equalizer and was happy enough to grab a point so had a quick bath (early start tomms) and check the scores to see a 1-3 win! :omg:

Even better to see Liverpool Liverpooling it, Arsenal back in the top four race so hope that Wenger will keep his job - what a night of footy!

Ref body have admitted the mistake and said the reffing team are "very dissapointed". The rule is if encroachment occurs AND the pen is missed, then it's a free kick to the opposition. If the pen is scored, it's a retake.  Ref fucked it up.

Still technically not a goal according to the rules.

Anyway, came to post about Spurs. 3 goals in the last few minutes to win it. Mental. Swanson fucked it. That, along with West Ham and Palace losing means is so tight down there now. Boro and Sunderland are gone, that last place is wide open still.

Please be West Ham.

West Ham are in free fall right now and the teams around them are beginning to pick up points. Swansea might just have too much to do though.

I've been very impressed by the turn around in Hull's form too.

I remember when he scores his half way line goal, the one he attemped every match until one finally went in. Even my mam, who is quite tolerant, absolutely despises him. I bet he's a real arsehole in real life as well.

Regarding the Newcastle penalty, as Angel said, the ref disallowed the goal for encroachment, and then mystifyingly gave a freekick instead of ordering a retake.

What's incredible, and particularly damning for the officials, is that in the seven minutes that followed, when the match was apparently stopped, the decision wasn't checked and reversed. During this time, it seemed that every one of the thousands in the stadium knew what the rule was, except for the ref. He consulted with his linesman, the fourth official started waving an iPad around, but none of them corrected him, or if they did he rejected it. This is a flaw common in many of the worst referees - an arrogant inability to admit that there's any possibility that they might be wrong. In this case it should probably cost him his job.

Always funny to see a Spurs fan come out with this like Wenger hasn't been lording it over them for twenty years.

Indeed he has, but right now, Spurs are a better team and unless something major happens in the near future, I don't see that changing for a while.

Let us Spurs fans have some happiness, we suffered through some truly dreadful times since winning the FA cup in 91.  But right now, being a Spurs fan is a joyous occasion, and the future looks even brighter.

I don't deny that Spurs are currently the better side. Just think it's a bit comical when their fans say stuff like that about Wenger, along with the "We want you to stay" chant which they've been doing for years every time his contract is up for renewal, when the bloke has handed Tottenham L after L after L for two decades.

They somehow contrived to finish behind Arsenal last year, so never rule it out.

I don't think there is much of a gap  between the two teams. Arsenal have a far stronger spine and if they replace their weak links in the team over the summer I can see them lording over Spurs again.

Liverpool did a Liverpool again, which has happened too much this season but despite that are still firmly in the hunt for a top 4 spot. Which says how much they've improved under Klopp and if he can strengthen that defence over summer they'll continue to improve.

I think you misread my dig, I have no doubt how good Wenger has been over the years and I refer to the sense of entitlement that some Arsenal fans have had for the past decade where Arsenal have finished about where they deserve to be on balance - Spurs are massively over achieving at the moment and the delusion that Wenger being replaced by someone will instantly return them to the over achieving had previously is hillarious!

The reality is that Arsenal can not compete on a financial basis with 3 teams in the premier league let alone the rest of Europe so Wenger has done an incredible job and doesn't deserve the shit he gets - the wanting him to stay is to just carry on the melt down of the supporter base who have long since surpassed the reality of football and are now a joke constantly giving Spurs fans and the whole of football a jolly good laugh week in week out.

In the wake of Trump and Brexit the constant supply of comedy gold from Arsenal fans in Telly and YouTube is enough to bring a smile to he faces if millions in these desperate times ;)

You what ?

We have the best central defence in the league, arguably the best central midfielder partnership and just about the best striker as well.  Arsenal, do though have two genuine world class players in Sanchez and Ozil but personally I would take Eriksen over Ozil, due to his far higher work rate which is a much needed attribute in the system we play.

Don't Man City want half of your team?

Basically repeating what was said on football weekly, Poch has apparently been keen to refer to his own contact negotiations when taking to players whose deals are expiring, suggesting that with the stadium move there is a unique opportunity to build something. I think he has a good chance of keeping this group of players together and genuinely elevating the club's status. Or one or two players could leave and it will all fall apart, we'll see.

@Liamness Alli is the one player who is almost guaranteed to get offers for in the summer, if you can keep him I think the rest will stay. I like Poch & think he has done an amazing job. Good luck in catching Chelsea & the fa cup semi-final should be a good match for the neutral.
