I'd like to thank Paramount for enabling me to break my hatewatching habit. Now I'm just reading the synopsis instead and chuckling at the stupidity whilst I use the time ai gain to better use my time with activities like cutting my toenails or finding out what lies behind you won't believe what this child star looks like now links.

I did feel the smugness in the first episode was at least a little knowing, and supposed to lead into the crew's slight comeuppance at the end. It still felt annoying getting to that point though, and the crew continue to be the least professional in Starfleet.

Remember when the enterprise D found Scotty in a transporter buffer in a crashed ship? The original miracle worker, one of the finest brains in starfleet who proved he was hopelessly out of date just 100 years later.

 

Most of the crew should be sitting in their quarters rocking back and forth with underwear on their heads, pencils in their ears uttering only the word "wubble" as the shock gets to them that all their family are dead, their field of expertise and level of knowledge is now something that is surpassed by 7 year olds and there's so much terrifying new shit to get their heads round -

 

did you hear about that bunch of seemingly unstoppable cybernetic beings bent on assimilating everything in the galaxy that are in the delta quadrant?

 

no?

 

oh well, don't even think about reading about the extradimensional xenophobic aliens who beat the shit out of them and could pop up anywhere and blow a planet up in seconds!

 

Fuck that- i'm off to the gamma quadrant!

 

*Cough* - xenophobic shapeshifter led superpower who can vat breed an army of millions of super soldiers in a couple of weeks *cough* 

 

Oh Jesus, well screw all of that i'm going to live on a rock and become a priest!

 

I wouldn't, we've met God, his name is Q, humanity is on trial for the crimes of its existence with him, and he has seemingly no qualms about erasing things from the universe for shits and giggles

Burnham is there. Burnham is a rebel and does what she likes and won't be told. She is smarter and cleverer than all of those things you mentioned.

 

Also, she's not a nerd, interested in all that Star Trek shite. She's present-day, self-important, centre of the universe, ego rampant - and the universe agrees!

I stopped watching this somewhere towards the end of the first season, when I just couldn't take it any more. It makes me happy to see all the hate in here for it, but I'm sorry to see it's made it to a fourth season with no signs of slowing down.

 

I have no intention of watching any of it, but are there any Plinkett style reviews/wrapups lambasting it that I can hate watch?

I think the release shenanigans have pretty much killed this, unless Paramount keep firing money at it.

 

Key question is whether a similar thing will happen with Picard S2 now? Presumably Amazon were part-funding it so so were Netflix with Discovery and Paramount bought them out, I'd imagine.

Doubly so when you have two high quality animated shows running and one of those is for kids.

I have to say I quite enjoyed the episode in the end. The stupid didn't impact on things too much, and I do quite like the development of Booker and the ongoing analysis of the anomaly. Of course, that analysis could still have just been a single episode of TNG, but I'll take what I can get.

The only reason I can fathom why this is only watchable "officially" on a weekly basis rather than on demand, and on a streaming service nobody has, is to filter out the people on the internet like me from easily dipping in when they feel like it to give it a good savaging. I sort of miss giving a good savaging, but ah well.

Fair point about its absence from on-deman, by why do you believe Pluto TV is a streaming service that no one has? It's is available through its website and app. The app can be installed on any device and is installed on Sky and Virgin Media boxes by default (or at least it was on mine).

Because when they announced it was going to air on Pluto, pretty much everyone said “Eh, what?”.

 

Granted, plenty of people could get it easily, but nobody was using it
