Eden, Channel 4

Anyone else watching this? These sorts of programmes are a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine.

This one is a slight departure from the usual "Survive for a month" type show, as they've got a year to build a community, and have started out with a lot of materials and equipment (including a rifle, and a bolt gun for executing pigs!). In addition, many of the 23 people have specific roles/specialisms from the outset, cook, shepherdess etc, so there's less of the usual arguing over who does what.

That said, it's already descended into the usual dick-swinging by Alpha Males (Anton, Tom), arguments, etc. But it's very watchable.

Yup. Very easy way to pass an hour of an evening. My only criticism really is that it's tough to identify how much time has passed. I reckon possibly near 2 months by end of ep 2, no?

Episode 1 had me backing the community and rooting against Anton. By end of episode 2 I was totally behind Anton, soso about the community and totally rooting against Tom. How fickle.

Here's the thing about Anton - he's probably right about building that winter shelter, but he basically decided "fuck you I'm going to build it anyway" when the others disagreed. That was never going to do anything but isolate him from the group, as was going off to sleep in his own. Funny how he could suddenly cope with sleeping in the same room as everyone else once he'd had all the attention he wanted. Wandering off in the snow like that as well - classic attention seeking behaviour.

And yet I too was warming to him by the end of Episode 2. No doubt clever editing, which picked all the shots of him laughing and joking as he re-joined the group after he broke down, and showed nothing of Tom except shots of him silently glowering.

These shows play us like fiddles...

They're still there now, right, as they arrived in March? I find that quite interesting, that it's still a live project.

That's what I originally thought, then it threw me with this week's episode how a month had already passed. You're right though, just Googled and apparently Channel 4 are asking for the general public to stay away from the area. I wonder why they chose to film it this way?

Well, episode 1 was their arrival in March, then episode 2 showed the snow they had in April. I can only assume they're going to get two or more series out of it, because they'll run out if they show a month each week.

Back in the Autumn, kinda annoying, would have preferred C4 to have filmed the whole thing before airing it.

Hilarious editing with the guy who got friend zoned this week, from happiest man in the world to fuck everyone in the space of twenty minutes.

What was the deal with Tara? Some of the guys treated her pretty poorly but I don't really understand what she was looking to get out of the experience.

The cast recently emerged to find out that the show was cancelled 6 months ago! It still went on as an experiment, and episodes may be screened in some form, some time. But they stopped making episodes because of low viewing figures, and because half the cast quit because they couldn't handle the Scottish midges.

Those last episodes were great. The twats living out on their own boys camp were beyond awful though. I think a lot of them will be cringing watching it back. Gutted when Anton left as he was one of the very few likeable ones.

I thought it was a bit of a storm in a teacup really. All that actually happened is that a bunch of people walked, one group formed a very cliquey gang and acted kind of shit, and two guys (one guy really) who weren't big team players got ostracised. All fairly standard stuff for a rough situation. Hardly the Lord of the Flies-esque madness the trailers implied.

To honest I thought the shittiest thing that happened was that vet guy walking without even saying goodbye to his girlfriend.

I'm only on episode 2 and these people are horrible. I can see why they killed this shit

Fucking hell this Titch guy is awful

Bloody hell most of these people are awful. I'm chuffed Anton and Raph burnt up their shit before they left because fuck letting any of those arseholes benefit when they were already planning on moving in after they left.
