The more I play and understand the maps, characters, objectives, etc, the more I am loving the game.

I only get the chance to play games in shorter bursts these days and unlike in some other games I don't feel like I will miss out by not being obsessed

The end of this article sums up my concerns with this; it's great and very polished but once the masses have moved on it will have a very high skill ceiling and that ideally you play with friends on your team

I played with some mates over the weekend and whilst they could see the charm we were matched against some good players who just marched over us and they ended up being a pretty disheartening experience.

If Heroes of the Storm is anything to go by I don't see this happening. Matchmaking isn't perfect but they try to match experience.

I don't really feel like that's working here yet (although obviously it's just a beta). There's some limited team balancing going on, but you often find yourself on a team that either loses or wins over and over if you stay in the rotation. Similarly, as I'm levelling up it's matching me with similar level players and isn't doing the best job of using any sort of metrics to see if I'm having a god time against those players. I'm level 10 now and am consistently the worst in each game I play. I'm still enjoying playing but it's less fun, especially when most of the characters move at such a slow pace. It seems weird that there's not a regular dash with the characters still having their own movement abilities. I'm finding myself choosing characters based on how far away the action is and how long it will take to get there, which doesn't seem ideal, but often my choice is arrive with a character I don't want to play as or arrive after the objective is captured. I've given up on Hanzo on any map that has the moving truck as I'm spending a lot more time moving through empty level than playing.

Does health regenerate or is it just healing? After playing against better people I'm finding it really hard to see my health and keep track of how much I have. But yeah, played for a few hours today and had a much worse time for the reasons listed above. Still looking forward to it loads, I just hope I don't get beaten out by high level play too quickly. I'm still experimenting with characters but the game is putting me up against people who seem to know the maps and characters way better than I do. Is there a way to delete progress and restart? I've not unlocked a single item for any of the characters I play as anyway.

hopefully not easily - my experience of this is with halo but i'm sure it happens in other games too - highly ranked people make new accounts to play against beginners. you can't stop it but at least if people have to make new psn/live accounts it's a deterrent.

i really like the game, but i'm a bit worried about the speed of it all, well not everything is that fast, but it seems designed for mouse and keyboard. so on a console with a pad, i'm sometimes finding it hard to hit stuff, hopefully it's just a case of getting used to it.

I really want to get good with Zarya because I love her design, but I had three of my games tonight as her. Didn't help that I was on a pretty bad team for two of them, but her laser cannon seems too weak against most opponents unless you can get behind them without them noticing. There's noticeably few people playing as her, which suggests she's one of the harder characters to play well as.

On the other hand, I completely fell in love with Genji tonight. Got two 'play of the game' awards in a row: second involved me taking out a Tracer with my special, reflecting a Widowmaker shot to kill her and pinning down an elusive Lucio with a triple shuriken shot.

Delighted they're extending the beta for another day. Back on it as soon as I've finished all my work tomorrow.

The key is to absorb damage with your two barriers. This builds Zarya's Energy, displayed on the bottom of your reticule, which is a straight percentage increase to your weapon's damage.

So yes, she is comparatively hard to play, especially with a controller; her beam is supposed to be used up close but doesn't have any kind of spread or tracking.

I generally wreck teams with Zarya, but she's kind of a mix of tank and assault (and even a touch of support) so you have to be a bit more careful than with the other tanks. With a healer in tow you can stop a full attacking team in its tracks by yourself, it's great. Her ultimate seems a bit pointless though, maybe if you are working with another player on comms and can combine it with their ult?

I have got to grips with D. Va now, she's fun and that self destruct is really strong.

Quite enjoyed this yesterday.

Surprised no one used Junkrat very often. I thought it was great fun with his bouncing bombs. Could take down Tanks quite well too!

Did fight in a game where two of the enemies were the archer guy. They literally owned the map on their own which was frustrating.

Got my first potm yesterday as turdborg. Dropping a turret on a defence point, upgrading it then activating my ultra. I'm still loving this, I'm mostly playing in close to if not a full party with us all on voice comms. We win more than we lose.

Add me to the list of people currently loving the Beta, and very close to preordering (on PS4). I've been trying to use characters to suit the makeup of my team most rounds, partially as an excuse to try out as many as I can, but I'm always extremely pleased to see that we're attacking and that the (preferably only) message up top says 'No Support', as that's my cue to play Zen. I love Zen. He looks awesome, can be a huge help when played well, and even holds his own in most fights. Robo-Dhalsim for the win.

The flip side to that love is of course when you're stuck on a team with at least three snipers, or a (not very good) Genji on defence. I'm still hoping that this is partially due to the presumably high number of noobs/numbnuts playing the beta, and that it'll be less of an issue come the 24th.

I do love the fact there's no unlocking skills/weapons though. No disadvantages to being new to the game besides the knowledge you're yet to pickup, and then the loot crates are still great, not least because I keep getting awesome stuff Scruff wants. (A purple skin for Junkrat (his favourite character), and the Legendary Barbosa skin for Tjornborg.)

Looking forward to one last night on the Beta now, and then launch day. God knows Blizzard aren't taking up enough of my (and my girlfriend's) time already, between Diablo III and Hearthstone...

Anyone else who's picking this up feel free to add me. :)

Yeah it seems too easy for one team to completely dominate - and then it's not fun (for either side).

There have been very few games (win or lose) - that have felt close of challenging. Or a close game of competing skills. The desire to "gg" everyone at the end is barely

It's a feeling that's only compounded (rightly or wrongly) by the PotM - which normally shows some utterly mundane turreting or super.

For our group of  chums on PS4  - there was vague interest in it, but now pretty much everyone's turned off. I think it'll stay on the radar and if it gets cheaper/balanced then it' might get picked up - but I think Blizzard will really struggle to normalise everything.

Conversely we bought the Battlefield 4 premium edition for cheap on Sunday and played some MP. No idea what's going on, probably actively hindering the team more than helping - but we had fun - winning or losing. (Apart from one map).

I've actually found that our teams have been jumbled when I've been playing with the same people for a few games. There was a really excellent Hanzo for example who was my team mate and then next thing I knew he was on the opposition.

I think you may need to adapt your play based on the mission at hand and the level a bit more. Part of the reason they gave us all heroes to start with is so we can pick the best for a situation, whether that be the objective or to beat the other team. If you are relentlessly wanting to play your favourite you will find you come unstuck rather quickly.

If you are escorting a truck, the odds are the enemy will try to go high to shut you down, so Hanzo will struggle unless you can pick them off from afar. Widowmaker might be more useful then, or someone else to counter the high play (Pharah)

I know what you mean about aiming to get to the action quickly though, but sometimes it's about what to do when you get there as well. Eg trying to capture an objective being different to trying to defend one! Hence why swapping characters actually in the game can have such a huge effect.

Healing is either via returning to base, collecting health packs or from other characters.

Yeah I've tried to find at least one from each class who I can play as and experiment with other people as much as possible. The main problem I'm having is that if I feel Hanzo would be the best choice for combat but the objective is far away then I can't pick him because by the time I get there the objective will be gone or the combat will have changed. I'm often defaulting to Soldier 76 just so that I can get to the action in time but finding he's not always the best choice once I arrive. I feel like spawning on teammates or just slightly faster movement for all characters might help? It's just annoying when I know there's a chokepoint full of enemies I could help to beat with window or Hanzo, but that I can't take them because it's too far away.

Hanzo is actually, like Widowmaker, considered a defensive character, he is much more suited to the maps where you get to "prepare your defenses!" Or even attack the other side doing the same, rather than the ones where both teams get unleashed to try to capture an objective that unlocks :)

If your side has a Lucio though, Hanzo can get there quickly with the rest of the squad! Hence I will always pick Lucio for those maps for starters.

This is exactly what has happened with my gaming buddies which is annoying because I really like the look and feel of this.

Playing last night I had 5 games, 3 we completely rolled over the other team to the point if it being boring, 1 game we got thrashed and 1 game where it all came together and we had a really tight game on defence winning with the payload bumper litterally on the finish line.

I do like the fact the games are quite short and "snackable" so hopefully the playerbase will improve after launch and I will see more games like the last one

I like how people think they've figured out the balance of a complicated multiplayer shooter with multiple maps, game modes and 21 different heroes after just a few hours of playing. Not only that but also in an environment with inaccurate MMR (because everyone has just started so the match making has no idea how good anyone is yet), and when they're playing in the casual "quick match" option (the competitive game mode isn't available yet) with an organized group that has full communication.

I think I prefer the Weekly Rumble now. It's nice to have things changed up (but Winston at least once every game, really?) and it avoids the 'whole team of Bastions' scenarios.

Still no decent skins :hmm:
