The difference in unranked is stark. Frequently doing 7k healing as Mercy as the DPS and tanks are doing their fucking jobs because they're not try-hard sweats desperately trying to top the tables.

Also just had a game as D.Va and got my 20 kill streak achievement. Also also, no deaths. Quite chuffed with that for a support main.

I believe it goes

Grandmaster

Platinum

Gold

Silver

Bronze

Each with five tiers in

You forgot Diamond, tis between Plat and GM. Generally, everything above Plat is seen as ridiculously good so for us mortals Plat is the highest honor.

Am Gold 4 now, I reckon this is where I have to set up camp.

Just lost a payload match while doing 18k healing, 13k damage, like 30 kills, 4 deaths. Thanks team, well done.

In their defense, they were occupied with charging Zarya’s bubble as soon as possible so you know, in the end it’s my fault for not healing enough.

To be fair, new Zarya can be really tough to deal with, especially for newer players who don't realise how the bubble mechanic works. Now when she has a pocket healer if she uses her bubbles just on herself in corridor maps like Kings Row she is really scary. In OW1 it used to be that you'd try not to shoot her bubble but it wasn't too bad if you did. In OW2 she's so much tankier and can afford to stay out and use the bubbles more, so a lot of players are still just piling into the bubble and making her mega charged, without realising if you're going to do that you need to follow up and actually kill her. I learned my lesson pretty quickly in OW2 after watching a few good Zaryas get team kills on max charge.

Interesting, I didn't know Zarya's bubble'd been amped. Might explain why one was running around melting our support with laser beams one match.

Our support being me. No idea where the Lucio went, probably still trying to bump people off the side of the map even now three days later.

To be fair, why be in Comp when someone does not know the utterly basic well documented skills of all players?

True, although we all know that unfortunately almost every game there's at least one player that doesn't seem to have a clue about how other hero abilities work. That's why I think this block on allowing noobs going into comp is a good idea, but I'd argue it needs to be even longer. With 35 heroes that is a nuts amount of stuff to know for a new player. I don't play stuff like League of Legends but surely that's a nightmare as well with its 70 or something legends. I'm a well rounded player in OW so I've played all the heroes quite a bit and it helps so much to know how the playstyles work and when characters are vulnerable. I feel like you should have to go on a bootcamp and play all the heroes for a bit before you're allowed into comp :P

I’ve just seen it requires 50 wins into ranked mode? That’ll take me a while such is my ineptitude.

Not too fussed as I’m only a casual player really but I’ve got no idea who does what anymore compared to OW three years ago. I stopped playing around the time Ashe was introduced.

I see there are still similar issues though with idiots not thinking about team builds which means I am usually a medic of some kind. Quite like Kiriko but not great with her yet but Mercy and Moira are so much easier to play as.

But this is why the grades exist. If I was getting into it with the relatively basic knowledge I have I should expect to get no farther than silver. I understand most of the 'counters' to a lot of characters (as support it usually seems to consist of breaking line of sight) but I've got no idea what Junker Queen actually has in her tool kit, so I don't know how to counter it. Same with Kiriko, Wrecking Ball and some other less played/newer characters.

In fairness, team comp isn't as important as it was in OW1. Teams with two "off supports" like lucid and zeb are absoluetly viable so long as the players know what they're doing, and there are fewer outright hard counters as there was. Reaper into Winston and a hits an for Pharaoh are the only ones that really stand out now. Winston doesn't seem to counter Sym as he used to either.

I’ve been playing a lot of mystery heroes because it’s very funny how crazy it gets. I had 3 mercy’s, including me, on my team earlier and we were in a chain at one point, healing and boosting an Orissa to ludicrous levels. At least I think that’s how the mechanic worked.

Mercy at the back boosts the next mercy who boosts the third mercy who alternates between double boosted healing and double boosted boosting (?) of the Orissa.

On another note, watching an Ana run past  me whilst I’m low health on a wannabe-DPS suicide mission and a Lucio standing in speed boost whilst his surrounding team mates are being cut down is getting ridiculous.

There needs to be better tutorials for all classes so support’s heal, DPS don’t overreach and Tank’s don’t cower on the back line afraid to get it.

It's been the same for seven years.

Had an interesting game right now. Mercy on our team thought she was DPS. Even though we lost miserably, those sniping shots she was doing from behind cover into their group while everyone else was bleeding out their backsides probably saved us some dignity, right? Right?
