The Great British Bake Off 2016

Selasi works in banking and lives in London, which means the audience is already firmly weighted against him. If he represented the metropolitan elite any harder, he’d spend the duration of the challenges playing Pokemon Go while getting a black forest gateau Deliverooed in from Islington Ottolenghi. He’s not only baking to win, he’s baking to save the reputation of the entire banking industry. He’d better be good.

Turns out Selasi is that good. He might have forgot to put some cinnamon in the banking industry in 2007, but I'd still forgive him.

Fun opening week. I reckon Kate will win if she reins in the cutesy/weird stuff for a bit, then brings it back for the later weeks. Admire her commitment to stupid cake titles, even if she won second prize in that area ("Mirror Mirror On The Wall, Who Is The Shiniest Cake Of Them All?" - Candice is a brilliant nutter and surely out by week 3).

Andrew for dark horse if he doesn't serve anything else upside-down. Kate, Selasi, Andrew, Benjamina, Jane for top 5.

Selasi was great - a little surprised he didn't get star baker. Might kinda fancy Candice a bit. It's not just the dark lippy - I'm not quite that shallow. The woman likes rhubarb! That first cake of hers looked properly awesome. Rhubarb and lime drizzle cake - good grief that sounds fantastic!

He was a little ungracious in not acknowledging Candice's tip on adding the cinnamon to his drizzle after he forgot to add it to the mix. Twice.

Candice needs to go though as the duck face lipstick and grating voice are too much for me.

He did acknowledge it to her, at least.

I was pretty sure Candice is the first candidate who accidentally flashed the audience, but since there doesn't seem to be seventeen Daily Mail articles on it I'm kinda doubting myself.

Yes, but not to the judges or Mel and Sue.

On that matter, I do wish Sue Perkins wasn't involved  as she makes my skin crawl.

My favourite moment was  when Hollywood commented on a cake being a little plain looking and they cut away to that young fella stood there with all his caramel spires and structures on the top.

What are you going to do with your remaining two wishes?

Is The Great British Bake Off in crisis?

That's what some are suggesting after BBC bosses revealed presenter Sue Perkins will NOT be on tomorrow night's show.

Her absence means partner-in-crime Mel Giedroyc will be left to host the programme on her own for the first time in the show's six-year history.

Crisis? What crisis?
