So an industry insider confirmed some interest facts.

- the BBC doubled their initial offer, making it £12 million a year

- Love Productions did not have the presenters tied to contracts; it sold format rights to Channel 4 only

- several TV companies turned down Bake Off when Love Productions first came up with it, it was the BBC that took a chance on it

- Love Productions had previously taken out a lawsuit over BBC Three's Hair, claiming it "infringed on Bake Off's format"

I'm still reeling from Kate going last week. Like they said, not the worst baker, just had an absolute howler. And her eyes did get increasingly scary.

My new favourite is Jane, who is the best at reacting to judges' comments. Either sad for serving up something bad (not "my family likes it soggy and rubbish", Val) or a genuine "thank you". Also, "I'd have bet my life savings on it. ... I haven't got any". I hear ya.

I was laughing all the way through Val's technical this week. It was like watching someone who'd never ever watched the show, or understood the basics of something she apparently makes every week. Thick pastry, can't be arsed blind baking the thick pastry. I'm no baker and even I knew what the outcome of that would be.

It was bizarre. She actually made a point of blind-baking for the shortest time possible, and then only begrudgingly because it was specified in the instructions. I could understand it if it was something she'd never made before, but to claim she made it every week and then demonstrate she clearly didn't have a clue was just... odd.

Just noticed that Berry has announced she's not following the show to Channel 4 either. I can't believe C4 paid so much for a name, and seemingly without a care that any of the faces of the show were included. Crazy.

Chuffed she's done that. Huzzah for loyalty in today's topsy turvy shitty world! Agree that C4 were absolutely barking signing on the dotted line without the presenters and judge locked. They ARE the show for goodness sake!

So they've got Paul Hollywood on a 3 series deal - that's millions for a tent, a name and the least likeable of all the presenters. I await the C4 announcement of Kirsty Allsop and Davina McCall joining the cast any time now.

No surprise at all that Hollywood would be the greedy one.

Hollywood is great mates with James Martin isn't he.

Yes, two dicks in a pod.

He was always going to go for the money.

What a shame you've got the three women standing up for something, and the dick guy chasing the cash. Well done Hollywood, you db.

Signing up Hollywood still leaves them with a conundrum. They're going to struggle to find a fitting replacement for Berry that contrasts as well with Paul as she did. Then add in losing Mel and Sue who perfected wandering around the bakers chatting and having a laugh.

C4 now either try to copy that and most likely get grief for having a poorer version, or go in a completely new direction and risk alienating fans.

Berry was probably the only chef that Hollywood and his ego would defer to.  That was another part of the appeal, this big bearded alpha male striding around the tent and then shrinking at the sight of a tiny 80 year old woman.

While I'm here, I really like Mel and Sue on the Bake Off, but can't stand Sue Perkins in anything else.

I had this horrible thought that, if a few of the presenters left, they'd go similar a similar route to tweedle dumb and tweedle doo from Sunday Brunch...

Remember when they left the BBC 2 "Something for the Weekend", which featured Louise Redknapp? Well while that particular woman is easy on the eye I find her intensely annoying. And yet, despite her common London tongue, she added a different element, a female touch, to the BBC2 Sunday morning programme.

Then she was dumped for the Channel 4 version, as Simon and the Chelsea fan continually bloke up and bum each other with their eyes and mouths on the Sabbath. It is an awful programme - and could this be the fate for Bake off?

Yes. Hollywood and Martin reunited. Twatpocalypse.

Although Bake Off succeeded because of the combination of presenters/judges, I do think Paul is the most easily replaceable element of the show. Grumpy, critical middle aged male chefs are ten-a-penny on TV. Finding another Mary Berry figure or a presenting duo with the history and therefore chemistry of Mel and Sue is a much taller task than if they had to replace Paul.
