Board games gone digital (yes, even android)

Don't forget that the app is just the base game with none of the expansions used. The expansions really open it up and turn it into a 'game' with having to get doors in order etc.

They've said on twitter they're not looking to release expansions, which is just ridiculous and will just sour people on the game.

In the base game your most decision is how to use your keys. Do you perform a prophecy and hope to discard a nightmare, or keep it in case a door appears. Second most common is the most efficient discarding method. Occasionally it's worth putting a door back into limbo (against your better judgement!).

I'd never play the base game physically because of the app, but it has made me play it because I realised how much the expansions do add.

I've been playing carcassonne on Android and its quite a nice implementation. Can get a bit difficult to see on your phone but it's a good way to pass a few hours.

A quick heads up that the Star Realms app has been updated. Previously it was a functional but very clunky implementation of the game. Now it's much more tactile and user friendly. It's not quite as good an app as Ascension was but that could be down to the fact that my ageing iPad3 is clearly struggling to do this justice.

It's really good now as well as being a better game than Ascension.

Not sure if this is the best thread to ask this in, but here goes...

I am a big fan of Card Hunter (http://www.cardhunter.com/) and would love to have a proper board game with the same style and mechanics. Is there anything out there that would fit the bill?

In a bid to try and keep on topic, Pathfinder Adventures is currently on offer on Steam (just over 34 hours left as I type this) at 40% off - http://store.steampowered.com/app/480640/Pathfinder_Adventures/

I don't play Card Hunter but Myth looks like it might be similar?

Oh, that sucks. Works ok on my OP3. What was the problem?

How does it play on a phone screen rather than tablet?

There are quite a few hand-management/deck-building dungeon crawlers out there. You've already mentioned Pathfinder: the ACG. Gloomhaven immediately comes to mind, but that's something of a beast. Mage Knight is regarded as the king of the genre, and is especially well-regarded as a solo game, but is again quite a monster. If it's the cardplay you like, and not the miniatures, then they've reinvented Thunderstone again this year.

It's ok, text is small on some cards so a bit of tapping required, but it's perfectly playable. Once I know the game a bit better I imagine it'll need less of that anyway.

Better on a tablet though obviously.

Fancied something a bit more substantial than the excellent Carcassonne so got Through the Ages at the weekend for the iPad.

It has an excellent and fun tutorial with one of the best jokes in a game I have ever witnessed!

Lost my first real game by 1 point but had a big win in the next (the first challenge against easy ai).

Already thinking about my next game, the second challenge.

Its £9.99 which is pretty much the most I've paid for an app, but it's delivering so far.
