Is there a UK release date for this? One of my kids wants it for Christmas. It appears to be 7 Dec in the US, but no sign of it for the UK.

It's a legit answer. Why not get the US version if the UK one isn't coming out yet? The Switch is region free.

Where’s the best place to get the US version (assuming it’s available)? I’ve seen the Japanese version up for sale (from pre-orders) on eBay, but not the US version. I rarely import games, so have no idea who to use these days.

Have been assured it's out on Switch on the 7th over here too. Apparently US press have review code already, too.

Weirdly the JP version seems to say it's out on the 20th. Strikes me as odd that they'd have the demo before anyone else, but the actual version later than anyone else.

Seems it might be digital only in the UK.

 

Play Asia are suggesting it is, anyway. Would explain why nowhere is stocking it.

 

So yeah, you might need to import after all.

Are you sure?  I was in Bic Camera yesterday and a sign said it was the 20th.
