I suppose it's not impossible but I'm not sure I'd be capable of doing it. Just seems a bit out of reach. It's not hugely important, but I'm surprised I noticed it as I saw the film after a few beers.

Try it. I can touch my ear to my leg if I turn my head

Yep. They basically cover everything, it's fairly tight.

Finally watched this last night, and it was great. As Geekette points out, nothing was wasted, and everything was done for a reason.

I'm very interested to see what Jordan Peele does next, because this was so crammed with little ideas and set pieces that it felt like a band's first album, where they have a a long time to accumulate good ideas. Hopefully the next one is just as dense.

I'm surprised at some of the backlash this is getting from people on a few Facebook movie groups I'm on. I think too many people have gone into it thinking it's a traditional horror and are moaning about it now being scary. People saying there's nothing too it, the "twist" was shit and it's a boring film. When I see those kind of posts though I feel like the subject matter has completely just flown over the head and they're not seeing the brilliance behind the film.

Really enjoyed this, so glad it wasn't the "Angry rednecks torture black guy" thing I was almost expecting. Atmospheric, intriguing and amusing. Great stuff.

I didn't quite understand why

the elders of the family would have their brains transplanted into black people so they could spend a few decades in servitude. Why would they want that?

Very glad it didn't end with him getting shot though, would have been too grim and predictable and therefore at total odds with the rest of the film.

Spoiler

Do we know for sure that the grandma and grandpa were even treated as servants when they weren't with outsiders? I wonder if they were just treated as themselves when Rose's boyfriends were not there.

It hasn't flown over my head, I just didn't find anything in it that hadn't been addressed elsewhere. As I say, I'm happy cinema like this is being made, I just don't see it as anything amazing.

The commentary on black/white relations, and black culture isn't fresh or surprising, which is what I was expecting. There's some fantastic little touches (the Jesse Owens bit etc), the twists were blatantly obvious from the outset (its defined as a horror movie so it is legit to criticise it within the genre), the clogging up the ears bit worked and made total sense until the second he got out of the chair he pulled it out again merely to create the tension of meeting the mum and the cup. The ending was incredibly weak, as in the final couple of minutes. I loved the hypnosis sequence, and found the early dad stuff, even though he's playing a role, entertaining, and did like how he went full FUCK THIS once he began his escape. I did also like how his best mate was the most cliche black role imaginable but no doubt that's more commentary on black role portrayal in films or something..

Its not a bad movie by any means, but its not the masterpiece I see some proclaiming.

I think that was just for the weekend. Putting on a show for the new blood. Hence why they were so bad at it. Come monday I imagine they were just part of the family again.

Stig, you watched Society yet? (don't google it). Really interested to see how they stack up to someone who has come at them both fresh

Every new post I think is Stig watching Society

STIG, WATCH SOCIETY

What the shunt was that I just watched?

Just watched Get Out today too. Corker of a film.

Not the second coming in Peele that has been suggest elsewhere, but it was just really well made ...which is so rare these days. A bit like on comments on Hell or High Water last year... in the entirety of movie history it's just "really good". For something that isn't a blockbuster or obvious oscar wank, that is noteworthy in itself these days.

I think that nice, clean, competent movie makes it harkens back to something like Halloween. I've heard a few reviews mention Peele in the same breath as Kubrick, but I think the way some shots are set up are more like borrowing the right tools for the right job. Really, I felt Carpenter more in the way the whole film progressed. Not bad people to lean towards for a debut.

For the film itself, it all kind of clicked, made sense, pacing was spot on and all the clues where there...but not so obvious to be dull. When you work out the way it's going doesn't seem to matter, it's still interesting to follow. That kind of thing right up my street.

However, I feel it's a one and done. Top marks but now I've seen it I doubt I'll go back to it.

Finally watched this. I really liked it but was surprised by the mainstream feel of it, went into it expecting a high brow arty film for some reason (not necessarily a disappointment that it wasn't).

The protagonists friend was the only grating mainstream trope as the obvious 'comedy relief guy'. Anyway, as others have mentioned it does have a BlackMirror vibe to it. It's almost as if the whole thing was a result of somebody asking Charlie Brooker to make a Black Mirror episode inspired by the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

And the lead guy is from an early Black Mirror episode I believe?  I think it's one of the only ones I watched but it was bloody good.

Saw this today - went in completely cold and so glad I did.

Cracking movie and great surprise. I knew it was on the moment her dad mentioned about

Jesse Owens beating his dad. Several decades of bad blood to cook up some plans

The lead guy's performance was brilliant - understated but really authentic.

I also saw some parallels with Black Mirror.

Only bit that bothered me was right at the end -

she would have seen the flash of the cameraphone go off and known that the groundsman was no longer entranced.

Just saw this tonight. Enjoyable movie but not as good as I was expecting given some of the hype on here. I'd say it is a little too on the nose  with the race relations stuff. I do like how we don't have a stupid horror protagonist. Everything he does makes sense...except for maybe

Spoiler

Killing the father with the head of a stag...

although I suspect there is some poignancy to that I've missed.

Dont really get the stereotypical mate. I mean he provides amusing light relief but, like someone else said, he really is like he's in a different movie.

I saw this the other day as well, it's so watchable. Something I've been wondering about..

What was with the son (her brother)? He really stood out like he was from an entirely different film, he had the reckless antagonising manner of a drug addicted conspiracy believing student who plays in a band or something, so out of place in this suburban surrounding. But was human with it, like his conscience had been wrecked from dealing with his role in these kidnappings he didn't want to do. He did stand out didn't he? It's not just me? He was the complete opposite to his sister's creepy robotic chameleon nature. And he wasn't even needed really was he? I mean in terms of the kidnap.

See, this is why I liked imdb's boards, because they'd be a thread dedicated just to this.
