The Good Place

I wonder if that's why there was a three-week break, because of all the visual effects stuff they must have had to do. Good to see Neil from accounting too!

Probably just scheduling. I think the whole season is wrapped at the moment and Bell is off doing Veronica Mars.

Brilliantly dark moments in that episode:

The witless affability of Neil from Accounting as we learn that millions of good, innocent people have been sent to be tortured for all eternity over the past five hundred years, simply because the good place is so arrogantly sure of their system. Whew. Left me feeling kinda winded for a moment.

It was an odd series. Maybe it's just because of the scheduling - I steamed through the first two series in about a week, and having to wait each week for 25 minutes of The Good Place was painful, especially with the stupid stupid gaps (I mean 3 weeks, one episode then another 5 week gap? That's just ridiculous).

But it really struggled in the first half, the scenes set on Earth just didn't work and they lost their way with Janet's character in particular. It rallied significantly in the second half but again because of the gaps between episodes I never really got the "this is brilliant!" feeling I got from the first two series. Maybe watching it through again in one go would make it seem stronger. But the Janets episode with the Accounting Department was up there with the best episodes this show has done.

Still, I'm glad they've found a way to get back to The Good Place (which is the only location this show really works) and the setup for the next season looks really strong. Shame we have to wait a year for it now really.

What is your profile pic, @wavey? Looks like a cross between Archer and Alan Partridge.

It's a drawing of Stephen Colbert I stole from an article about him, back when he was doing The Colbert Report:

The one a week decision is fucking irksome. Total 1st world problem but fucks sake.

It is not really a decision.  It airs on NBC in the States and they broadcast an episode a week and have premiere rights.

Netflix does the international side but has to wait until NBC has aired the episodes.  So they either release weekly or hold the whole lot back until the last episode has aired on NBC.

I did not realise that, we just binged the last 3 series, a while back.

I rewatched the end of S3 to refresh my memory of a few things and it reminded me of my fave ever line in TGP, and one of my faves in anything ever.

Chidi and Eleanor are saying their emotional farewells and she mentions how attractive she is, he laughs. And then she punctures the laughter with the most perfect Shellstrop line:

”It’s not a joke. I’m a legit snack.”

Just utterly perfect in every way.

I have binged this the past couple of weeks, didn’t know I had caught up with a weekly show airing now! I also didn’t know it was Parks and Rec people behind it, one of my faves that and this is good fun too - it’s just good fun with some strong leads and generally well written.
