That SotN HardType v4.6 does not fuck about.

It was all smooth-going up until the first proper boss. Gargoyle man and his bird/reptile pike man friend, they nearly had me giving up. I got there after around 30 attempts, after learning how to back-jump/slash their fire projectiles to prevent myself from getting hit, while moving left-to-right after each attack phase if only to set up a timing rhythm. The first phase (before you break the pike) can be exploited pretty easily, at least.

Oh yeah; I had to also take a break, after I lost my patience, to go back and level up a bit off of those fish men.

I'm not so sure I want to continue. That said, the lack of input lag compared to the X360 version is great.

Is the arcade mode worth playing. I tried it tonight, seemed ok but the framerate is awful. Simulation mode doesn't have that problem

Arcade is ok, but it's basically just a bunch of circuits with 6 or 8 cars on them. It's a quick-play diversion. I can't really recall if it struggled on original hardware, but my guess is that it probably did.

Simulation is the main point-to-point rally mode. I don't think there's any difference in the handling between the two, so the only reason I can think of for calling it Simulation is that you can tweak the cars and they get beaten up as you progress through the stages.

Awwww, this is excellent news :-)

Well.... would you like it for the cost of postage?

There are some caveats...

1:- It's disc only, no box or manual

2:- It's got a 1cm crack on the outer edge of the disc.

It plays fine, and a cursory rip via the wonders ofAnyToISO on Mac shows it has read 100% off the disc, all 255.1 MB of it, so yeah, it's got another 400+ MB's of empty space before it reaches that crack.

It's unsellable like this, and has been kicking about my office for well over a year, maybe 2, getting moved from one pile of knackered discs to another, and well, I'd like i tto go to a place where it might get played, rather than continually getting in my way :-p

No worries at all, wanted it to go to a good home where it will get played, there's sod all chance of me playing it, my pile of shame is far to high as it , and sans box it wont look good on my shelf, at least you'll put it to use :)

I might sneak another disc in there, it's also cracked round the edge, but unfortunately, the music tracks are in red book format, so you'll want to turn the music off in the options... but that's fine, you can hear the Ice Cream van better if the music isn't playing ;-)

I invested a lot of time and money in the American PS1......worth every moment.

As I just picked up a pal ps2...I bought some pal stuff earlier.

I'm looking forward to driver 2. Probably going to pass some on to fund Vib ribbon..

Nice!! those official PS One screens fetch a pretty penny, they are lovely looking, and the sound from them is also great.

Considering the age in which this LCD was released, this was some seriously good kit :)

:)

collecting in this week all being well. If I can, I'll do some pix before I wrap it up for my little brother.

I played the original driver bitd and I would of been pretty young. I remember listening to the reviews at the time of the second game and passed up on it......

I'm not even sure I'd love the original now, like I did then..I'm still excited about playing the 2nd one! Could be with me this week!

God knows why I thought it was called Clockwork Racer. Anyway, it’s pretty good.

Developed by Clockwork Games.

Can anyone recommend some racers? Prefer more arcade type ones. Really liked type 4 when I played it recently. Currently playing wipeout 1 which is really good.

Also any thoughts on Syphon filter, just downloaded it and about to try it.

Burning Road, hard but fun and cheesy.

Racing Groovy is great.

Tokyo Highway Battle is great.

Moto Racer 1 is excellent. Second has a duff frame rate.

Rally De Africa is a great Sega Rally clone.

Speed Freaks is good fun.

V-Rally 2 is amazing, best rally game of the era.

I'm gonna try a refurbish the three PS1s I have in storage, one of which is an OG model we ran into the ground back in the day. Hopefully between the three I can cobble together one decently working unit, and if not maybe look into ordering an XStation ODE..although I don't think I have the skills or good enough equipment to install it.

R-Types, R-Type Delta, Gradius Gaiden, Einhander, Namco Museum Encore and...Jumping Flash are all staring me in the face after being fished out of storage and it'll be great to use an actual PSX rather than a monster PS2 phat (which I'd need to hack for playing JPN disks) or the knackered chipped Slim which needs work of its own before I try to use it again.

If you need any spares, I've got several ps1, p2 and ps2 slims that are all in bits, laser / disc read errors :(

It's horrible, these drives that are the weak points in these machines. I have a couple of Saturn model 1s with *absolutely perfect* rock solid drives, one of which saw a load of (ab)use back in the early 2000s and acts factory fresh to this day. I have absolutely zero concerns about wear and tear or maintenance. It's like a silent tank, completely unlike any other CD machine.

PS1s & PS2s? Dear god. How cruel that the consoles with the biggest most diverse libraries packed to the rafters with both lavish event games and super cool weirdo gems also have the shittiest disk drives (anecdotally speaking).

Thanks for the heads up. The PS1s will be upcoming project so I'll bear this in mind.
