I’d be quitting my job in the CGI house if they came to me now and said “we need you to remake everything in the next 6 months.

 

That or demanding a shitload of money to stay.

This stuff is always contracted out isn’t it? So a whole bunch of CGI houses just got a bunch of extra work at presumably a rush rate.

Not before filling up all the weekends and evenings of the current houses from now until November unfortunately.

Poor SFX guys.

 

Fact is though, who truly cares about Sonic in 2019? A handfull of fans? Does he really have mass-market appeal nowadays? 

 

This will also never make any money back if they go overbudget by redoing all the CGI.

Who cared about Casper the Friendly Ghost in 1995, Alvin and the Chipmunks in 2007, the Smurfs in 2011?

 

Those are the kind of films this should be compared to. The only difference is that as the people greenlighting the films have aged, the sort of characters they recognise (and are banking on kids' parents recognising too) have shifted from cartoons to games.
