Doesn't sound like Joel. 

 

I guess the only good news here is that Joel's probably dead. 

 

It's a bad sad thinking about the inevitable body count from this game, combining it with the first's and thinking about the number of lives that could have been saved if Joel wasn't selfishly obsessed with his stupid dead daughter.

I think in an ideal world, I'd have liked the world to have moved on quite a bit further to see if there was a chance that humanity could survive long term in a world that's completely gone down the tubes. A little like we get with the Walking Dead comic really.

Why would they go to the trouble of making it look like and sound like Joel for it to not be Joel? That's not even an interesting twist. Just make it a different person if that's the case. It'd spark much more discussion.

I think people are misinterpreting tasteful camera shooting for theory baiting.

The man in the trailer is definitely Joel. Whether they're anything more than a figment of Ellie's mind is another matter.

It doesn't sound like his voice to me, and doesn't look grey enough from the side for an already greying joel +10 years. I think it's Tommy, not just because the voice and appearance look similar but off, but also because the dialogue didn't feel like an exchange between the two of them to me. I'm not saying it's anything definitive, just that from that brief clip Ellie felt like the same character, whereas Joel didn't. It might be as simple as Joel having changed in some way.

 

For what it's worth, I think her finding out that he lied to her works better as a dramatic reveal if she finds out after he's died and sh'es murdered her way to the leader of the fireflies.

It's a lovely and very impressive piece of animation as always from Naughty Dog. I just can't fathom why they're so determined to keep turning these things into video games. Their heart is clearly with narrative rather than gameplay - why not just make animated films instead of feeling they have to bolt a mediocre third person shooter to everything? I'd really enjoy watching a full lengh film in the style of that trailer, but the thought of having to slog through their pedestrian gameplay, with inevitable character deaths and re-tries breaking the immersion of the narrative itself, is massively offputting. Is there more money in video games these days or what?

I've tried the original game twice, liked it a bit better second time but for some reason I just don't enjoying playing it enough to keep going on. And I bloody love every Uncharted game to bits so it can't be Naughty Dog fatigue. This looks amazing again, but if it's more endless trekking through ruins moving ladders while having gloomy conversations and throwing bricks to distract annoying monsters I'm not sure if I'll get on board.

Yeah a bit excited for this one. Not only was the first game utterly spectacular but it had a terrific, not-like-anything-else multiplayer in it's factions mode that kept me going for ages.

 

My heart sank a bit when I realised Joel and Ellie were coming back as that story is done as far as I'm concerned, but if anyone has the chops to make something good out of this set up, it's Naughty Dog.

 

Also how good are those graphics? Surely must be pushing base PS4 to the absolute limit.

 

It's great we have many new titles to look forward to. Good show Sony.

That trailer was great. Loved the framing of the title, a ballsy move to frame it like that. But then, the original is The Godfather of videogames. <-- This is the part where Smitty posts that cherylcole.gif. ;)
