I seem to remember I suggested something like that when they first mooted the idea, but everyone seemed confident such a screen couldn’t be strong enough and would be impossible to see through in the wet. Do they run in the wet? Although I’d have thought helmet visors would have the same problem with spray and they work somehow

IndyCars do run in the wet on street and road courses. Not sure how they're going to deal with that.

 

When Vettel tried the Ferrari version of the aero bubble at Silverstone last year he said he found the glare distracting and was worried about build up of debris/oil/rubber as well as water. Will be interested to see how IndyCar plan to deal with it.

Has anyone watched the Grand Prix Driver documentary series which was released on Amazon Prime yesterday? Getting decent reviews. It's only four episodes (each about thirty minutes) so will try and watch some of it over this weekend.

 

Below is the series synopsis:

GRAND PRIX Driver goes inside the secretive world of Formula 1 by offering never-before-granted access to the inner workings of McLaren. Just watched it all this morning. Summary: Honda are shit. The team passed their set targets, but the one thing that was holding them back, they didn't want to cover in the series. What a waste.

I'm fairly certain that the glare issue was related to the aero bubble curving in 2 dimensions, note how the side profile of the Indy car one has the front of windscreen completely flat (like a 30 degree angle upwards straight line) whilst the bubble also curved off towards the top.

I could be talking BS of course.

 

Either way, halo is going to look crap, and we all know it, but does it really matter when year after year there is something that makes the cars look crap anyway, high noses, fat noses, monkey seats, shark fins, coat hangers, mental double diffusers, skinny rears with sticking out floor pans...  The main difference for this season is that this is the rules dictating a crap appearance, rather than a crap appearance coming from flaunting an ambigious rule - so basically, expect 1 other major weird moment in appearances with the upcoming launches

Yeah I guess the curve could have the effect of a lens? That beautiful Jag prototype couldn’t be made because of a curved screen (a long time ago, maybe precursor to the XK?). Though LMP have curved screens don’t they?

It's not bad, and it's clearly the best livery they've put out but it's still pretty dull.

 

Nice work integrating the halo. Oh hang on no, it looks as tacked on as ever. 

 

 

 

Also.. why oh why have they not got rid of the thumb noses by now? Just change the nose / front wing regs already ffs.

I think part of what makes it look good is the wheels disappearing and giving the illusion of lower profile tyres, and I don't normally like black wheels. Plus the halo blending into the body of course, though they might have just picked the best camera angle for that?

There's also 2 sponsors missing from the side that were there last season in Randstad and Hackett.

 

Rexona have dropped the front wing logo for a nose cone one, they've lost Avanade from the front and there's no Mercedes logo anywhere like last year, which probably has cost implications.

 

All to gain SMP Racing and Acronis who I hope are paying VERY well.

From the few races I've watched over the years it isn't as close as it used to be and they've got a weird overtime and races with different stages to decide the winner. But you may like these changes, for me races should be lights to flag with no intermediate points rubbish.
