Destiny 2: Lightfall

Yeah this season has turned into a bit of a stinker for me. After a promising start the  weekly 'story' and missions have been poor and I'm not a huge fan of the Ketchcrash activity; might just be me but there's too many ally NPC's fighting alongside which makes it difficult to distinguish them from the enemies. Tie that in with the annoying gatekeeping of progress and the new grind for red-border weapons and the season is in a bit of a dodgy spot.

I'm enjoying the non-pinnacle grind but at the same time have felt no compulsion or need to play gambit or crucible at all.  Strikes are mindless enough but also feel pretty stale.

Both the artefact/mod/champions and dishwasher/upgrades need a bit of a rethink and I hope something new is in the works for Nightfall.

I thought they were going to Kill Eido at the end, and she’d become a guardian- but nothing ever went anywhere this season.

Eramis - still out there!

Third Party - was it just an exude for mob variety?
The Relics - maybe purpose/power revealed in future

Mithras - once was a bit nasty

Spider fucking with engrams - no where

It’s all just lack of payoff everywhere

It feels like a filler season which they had sitting around, waiting to go, and could be slotted in anywhere.

Oh and there better be another at least another 4 repute challenges before season end as I really really really don’t want to have to level 3 shaped seasonal weapons to level 10 (as they are all a bit pants really…apart from the machine gun).

Just for you one of them is to make it level 20 😆 At least it is just one rather than three.

Unless I'm missing something Festival of the Lost seems like an (even more than usual) massive grind to unlock all these pages. Not helped by the fact I'd been leaving the event too soon with the weirdly long delay before it marks it as completed so a few didn't count (as happened to a number of youtubers i watch too).

Even the seasonal challenges seem like a "that'll do" selection. It feels like there's usually a bit more connection with the season to most of them than this time. "Just play some more gambit with arc"

I think most of the challenges are much easier/less time intensive than the Fire one. Except 35 haunted sectors. Jesus.

But they do seem rushed/filled and completely unbalanced. E.g. one is get 18k Candy. One is get 3 epic bags. (which cost 4k Candy...the only use for Candy is to buy bags). One is to do 35 sectors. That will get you about 2.5-3x the Candy needed for 18k, nevermind the bags.

I've been off work sick, so I've pretty much completed them all except the 35 sectors/18k candy to gild it.

I just got an email that reminded me of the hilariously long wait times on Bungie EU rewards delivery. I ordered the moments of Triumph 2021 shirt on 19th Feb 2022. Update is that it is delayed again and should dispatch between December 2022 and Feb 2023.

I've completed the 35 sectors, and got the seal and 3 of the extra triumphs for the gilding. I only have 24k/30k for the final one. I was getting everything that dropped so got less than 2x

  • 4 weeks later...

I've been out of touch with Destiny 2 for ages and haven't played it since PS4 Pro was the bees knees.
The Witch Queen is currently on sale for Xbox, if I buy that do I get all previous expansions as well, or do I need to buy them all seperately?

You could probably skip the 30th Anniversary pack if you don't care too much about what it offers. It has the Gjallarhorn, a "new" activity and dungeon, and some cosmetic bits. I stuck around with Beyond Light content until Witch Queen, because I rarely bother with dungeons and don't care that much about Gjallarhorn or the cosmetics.

(I'll probably pick it up if it gets discounted even further in the future. )

The end of season cutscene that got unlocked last night is absolutely comical. The story this time round has been pretty weak - a nice pirate setup around recovering ancient artifacts of the darkness, which turned into endless soap opera chattering between various Fallen characters with names like Asquilax and Frospin the Grotmonger. For some reason, the ending for this season is Fraxilax taking the various body parts of the dead alien we've been gathering over the course of the season and turning them into soup, which somehow revives Osiris and gives him the pep he needs to snog his robot husband, Saint-14.

I don't quite get what Osiris has to do with anything that's happened so far, but it's nonetheless unexpectedly hilarious that the dramatic climax of this season is him getting off with a robot.

I was playing the season half attentively. I did like the Drifter/Eido chatter in some of the missions, but the whole Osiris thing in that cutscene was kind of  .

I gave up on the weekly challenges and the artifact upgrades though.

It was a poor season, really. The seasonal activities were actually quite fun - the ketchcrash bit in particular was like a six-person strike, and was pretty enjoyable - but there's only so much throwing the thing at the thing I can be bothered with. The new guns all looked like trumpets. And there were so many quest steps that involved going to the Eliksni quarter and listening to some interminable conversations between characters I sort of remember from previous expansions. It doesn't help that the last season was one of my favourites, and had a genuinely pretty compelling story and a decent structure that felt like a mini-campagn.

TBH, I'm happy for them to have an uninspiring season every so often. There's no FOMO if you're MO on FA.

Apparently, apparently, there's some precedence in the lore about the darkness having been used for something like this before, but I'm too busy enjoying the top-voted comment about the cutscene on the r/DTG subreddit being "Nezzcafe" to be bothered finding out.

I'm a grinder (I like to get things over with and be done with them - I hit rank 100 just before the first weekly reset this season ) but this season felt far too grindy if you were trying to get all the seasonal things. The Scallywag title (before its requirements were reduced), the seasonal craftable weapons and all the weekly challenges for the now-Obligatory 7x3 Grid required you to do the seasonal activities way beyond the points of enjoyment and indifference, and well into resentment, especially with nonsense like how the Ruffians were implemented and how relatively late guaranteed sources of red border weapons came. It also didn't feel great when some of the later challenges pointed out how you'd get them done quicker in the Master version of a seasonal activity, which there's no in-game matchmaking for, and with in-game LFG still a few seasons off.

Still, Arc 3.0 buildcrafting has been great (I have about 30 new builds made) and I took the chance to have multiple breaks, play different things and came back later to finish up anything else I wanted to do (only finished gilding Conqueror a few days ago).

I've spent a few hours today in DIM's Inventory, Organizer and Loadouts tabs, having honest conversations with myself about how many notes:PvP weapons I'll ever really use, how many duplicate copies of this season's 900 RPM SMG which I don't really like the feel of is appropriate to have, and dealing with all the duplicate exotic armour I have from the last 2 seasons, managing to clear out 120 vault spaces in preparation for next season. One of those duplicate exotics and a bit of shuffling armour affinities and mods around brought one of my favourite Hunter ability spam builds up 3 full tiers and made it triple 100, with only 7 wasted stat points, and if that's not what it's all about I don't want to be right :quote: (Bungie plz simplify it to be like the new Monster Hunters)

They really screwed up the grind this season, and it's annoying they leave it to the last week to change the requirements when it was so clearly wrong months ago. This final week event to collect coins by doing even more expeditions lol no.
