After careful consideration and 2 hours of smashing my knackers in a drawer (metaphorically) I'm with @Garibaldi and Project: Seraph Shield (Legendary) can go and fuck itself. Quite happy to deal with anything in that mission except  bullet sponge Praxis. Just giving him a shitload of health and a stop gap shield removal mechanic is lazy and it can fucking do one.

I'm normally the first to grumble when things get difficult, and while that boss encounter is challenging on Legend, it's not overly difficult if you ask me. I've done it flawless solo on Legend. @moosegrinder What's your setup? I do it as a void warlock.

It's not that it's hard, it's just long. I get to phase three on Praxis and my patience ends and I make stupid mistake. Then I'm in a cycle of "I've been at this two hours so like FUCK am I stopping now!" and just get radgy at it.

 

I'm using my arc cc build; Getaway Artist,  Trinity Ghoul, arc soul rift thingy. Discipline up to 100 because I fucking love grenades. I don't actually have any other PvE armor, I use discipline on everything. Keep that arc soul up, take out the trash quick. For secondary and heavy I ended up ditching shotgun for a sniper for the mid boss with the brigs and Sailspy Pitchglass for Planck's Stride because the Machine Gun seems to wrech bosses better than the linear. I tried my Devour/Contraverse Holds/Le Monarque build but I couldn't keep the trash down.

 

Also I am bad at video games, so there's that. I'll have a look at that video and try again later once the urge to uninstall it like a petulent child has abated.

What's your resilience? You need that at 100 at all times. Also, what resist mods do you have in your chest piece? With the exception of the hive boss and the final boss, I have arc chest armour and two arc resist mods (you could switch to sniper for the space section). I then switch to void chest armour with two void resist mods in, because there's a lot of void shit in the final room.  Also, if you love grenades then Void and Contraverse Hold is indeed the best. Make sure you're set up with bountiful wells in a solar armour piece, 3 x Elemental Ordnance, and Well of Tenacity in a void armour piece. With that setup you'll generate loads of void wells from your grenade (make sure to overcharge it), when you pick up those void wells you'll get your grenade back or be close to it and you'll have extra damage resistance. 

 

Also, this may be controversial, but for most of the Seraph dungeon I don't use an exotic weapon. I use a sniper in the top slot (Succession), SMG in the mid slot (Ikelos is best here for the many arc shields) and Linear Fusion in the heavy slot (Taipan).

The whole mod thing annoys the fuck out of me because I can't manage all the armour you need for various set ups. I've been using the artifact minor damage reduction mods and I go with Charged With Light shit for Powerful Friends and Protective Light, plus Harmonic and Kinetic Siphon for the orbs. 

 

Is there an idiots guide to well builds? And I mean idiot because some of them may as well be speaking in tongues.

 

I've got some Arc armour and I can stack Res and keep my Disc so I'll give it a go in a bit.

Jiggled some of my armour and got 80 disc, 100+ Res and some void mods that trigger health Regen on collection, which should help with the Charged With Light nonsense.

I found that Grand Overture was incredibly useful for the final boss on Seraph's Shield - rockets at x20 absolutely decimated his health.

I hope they are investing all their QA team's effort into Lightfall, as the worst thing about Seraph's Shield is how buggy it is. Which is particularly annoying given how long it is and there's no CP and people can't join once it is in progress. Had 3 runs in a row where there was some glitch which meant either had to repeat a chunk or start over. Boss not moving on to the next stage and sitting their idle and immune. Rooms with enemies not spawning so can't progress. The scaling on the final boss is off as well. Had someone rage quit when we failed it just once, and it became absurdly easy with two instead of three.

 

A less critical issue was I spawned into the tower and the winter festival and iron banner was all merged on top of each other.

 

Apart from the above though I really like the mission and season. It feels like they are using it as a bit of an experiment with the difficultly - particularly with what they can get away with in matchmaking. Such as having champions (although I've been in some matchmade games where people must have been having a terrible time when they don't understand they don't have the right equipment). Seems a bit late for what they find to make it into Lightfall but hopefully shows they can make things more challenging.

Switch Ashes to Assets to another Elemental Ordnance or Seeking wells if you prefer.

 

Use it with a void weapon (the SMG from Duality or IB can drop with reactive brace which is great, or a grenade launcher with wave frame is good too with the artefact mods this season)

Right, first one done. 70 minutes and about 14 deaths without cheesing it. There's a platform actually in the room you can shoot him from which mobs can't get to. Not looking forward to doing it 3 more times.

*Googles* apparently so. So why does turning I off make the matchmaking so bad? There can't be that few players on Xbox can here?

It may also be console generations too. So a PS4 player with 30fps and a FOV the size of the gun itself can have a fun old time on their own if they choose.

I know I'm an old-ish man with shit reflexes but I don't get how people can one shot me with something like the Syncopated. Crucible infuriates the shit out of me, I don't know how you're supposed to stay alive for longer than 30 seconds at a time.

Maybe your under the hood skill ranking is too good? The last two/three seasons I’ve been having a wonderful time with a little bit skills-based matchmaking (even in Competitive where they can put you in one of the LOL ranks).

 

But then I get bullied to do Trials and my rankings tank hard.

I doubt it. I think a large part of the problem is I try to play it like CoD and what have you and I don't think you can.

 

Is the Trials rating mashed in with the Crucible rating then? It's not its own thing?

The KD seems to be but not sure if that affects IB matchmaking. Either way, it’s Titan barricade hell in IB at the moment. Bring anti-barrier mods!

I tried turning crossplay off on PS5 and got the same results. Not sure whats going on.

 

And yes Iron Banner is now SBMM, but also fireteam based so you supposedly wont match teams if you go into the non-solo playlist, though I've heard it has mixed results.

Not a fan of the new Iron Banner mode. I spent last night trying to reawaken the old COD Domination muscle memory, focusing on holding two zones and coming bottom of the scoreboard every match as I wasn't racing around capping like everyone else was. We'd get a decent lead and then the central zone would arrive, the enemy team drops three bubbles and all of a sudden we're losing, rinse and repeat. Seems the most popular strat is for teams to run in a loop holding hands taking each point in turn, keeping the scores relatively close, then just going nuts with supers etc whenever the cabal show up. Bleh. The spawns are absolutely awful too, was capping a point in one match last night and three opponents spawned practically on top of me in the space of about two seconds.

 

 

On the bright side I'm building a house out of Blowouts.

I'm in the "meh" camp with it. I tend to do well in it and save my nova bomb for the bubbles (if you're lucky they'll waste all of them at the same on one point) but what tends to happen is whoever caps it first gets fucked in the last ten seconds and then the other team just swan in and take it.

 

The biggest problem aside from that is I have no idea what the scoring system is. What does that turret defended position add? Actual question as I have no idea.

Iron Banner has been shit for a while now, and the weapons are all a bit naff, or look naff, like that Hand Cannon - wtf!  They need to bring back Nirwen's Mercy from D1, though I suppose it could be argued that's what The Messenger is.
