Destiny 2: Lightfall

I think the only gun I don't have from Season of grinding Containment (you're welcome, Nate) are Firefright and Drang. Maybe I'll finish off Drang. But if I'm gonna grind one, I'd guess it's Tarnished Mettle really. I need 4 more red bars to get that done, and I didn't complete enough of the story yet to buy them. Annoying!

Prioritise the Mini-Tool and Bump In The Night over Austringer, I reckon. The Mini-Tool with Incandescent is even more fun than a Voltshot Ikelos.

I've got an Ammit with Incandescent which is why I've deprioritised Mini-Tool a bit. That and simmering resentment for Calus breaking up my raid team, haha.

I'm a big fan of Austringer, with Outlaw and Rampage - you can absolutely rip through adds with it, and the fast-forward reloads are very satisfying. I would probably prioritise the mini-tool too, as Incandescent combined with a solar subclass is like being the god of hellfire.

If you haven't got them already, Without Remorse and Tears of Contrition come highly recommended. ToC with triple tap and explosive rounds is especially worth the mats.

Another +1 for the Austinger, it feels so snappy and clean on console. I never use it though (prefer a pimped Fatebringer) but it’s never a chore extracting the Resonant spacecoins out of it when it drops.

Newbie question: Just downloaded this on my Xbox so I could get my old save and enable cross save. Linked my PS account but when I start the PS5 version it keeps bringing up a QR code and telling me to proceed “only if I want to use the characters offline or the ones on my PS”, of which there are none. Will this blank save overwrite my old Xbox save or will it download my save?

In other news, I very much enjoyed the free intro to the Witch Queen.

That’s the kicker isn’t it? You actually have to do the seasonal activities to get the stuff to buy the stuff.

I think I have everything I will conceivably use in to the next year, certainly not going to try and get everything. It’s a learnt behaviour with Destiny that you kill yourself trying to get certain weapons before they go away knowing full well that there will be plenty more coming that will be as good if not better.

I’ve been using bray.tech to look at seals I’ve nearly got. I’ve never really bothered with that stuff before but if I’m one or two triumphs away then I’ve been trying to get them. Got Dredgen the other day, only about 4 years behind everyone else.

3 Containments to buy a focussed red bar, plus first Opulent Key gets a random red bar, plus first Bound Presence too. So it might not be too much of a grind? But yeah.

Don't suppose you know anywhere that explains it all? Don't want to mither anyone to run me through it, but I don't know how 3 containments buys a red weapon. Got the opulent one. Does it matter if I haven't got the Crown fully unlocked?

You get some Opulant Umbral coins every time you finish a Containment.

The amount you get depends on how much of the Crown is unlocked. It’ll also tell you where else you can get Umbral money from.

Get enough Umbral coins and you can buy red borders. It’s then really fast to level up guns in Containment for the Resonant Element coins and Ascendant alloy coins that you will also need to make and level up more guns.

It’s the same process for the other vendors by doing their seasonal activities. But then you have to do that pirate shit.

It’s also worth nothing that crafted guns barely make any difference over something that drops with an excellent roll. Some of the enhanced perks do literally nothing. Weapon crafting is a massive and magical scam which has easily sent Bungie’s player engagement stats through the roof.

Yeah but to chimps like me who just like seeing numbers go up they're great. I'm never going to do any end game content so god rolls are pointless, I just need the rolls that make the gun feel nice.

Thanks for the explanation, one of the two Crown upgrades I'm missing is the bloody deepsight resonance perk. I can get one more from the deprecated season journey so I'll have a go at that.

True yeah been going on a crafting spree and it does change the feel of some guns you like when you pump everything into stuff like range or handling. Just bitter as always never have enough resources.

I have the same problem with the War Table one (Risen?) and the only way to get more unlocks is to do PsiOps Battlegrounds on Legend and, well, no. Which is a shame as I quite fancy the grenade launcher.

If anyone's wondering what's worth chasing in the next few weeks this is a good vid.

I think I'm left to acquire Drang (one red bar remaining, so 3 Containments max) and the Arc Linear Fusion from Season of Pirates (Sailspy Pitchglass?) - 2 patterns remaining, so a couple of Expeditions and maybe a Ketchcrash or two to grind the ingredients for that.

Then I've largely gotten everything I think looks worthwhile, at least. As someone who'd skipped a lot of Pirates, I actually found earning the upgrade currency retrospectively really easy - a lot of the sub-requirements in that season had just auto-completed during Seraph, so it almost all just fell out.

I don't think I'd relish going back to the Psi-Ops season at all. Thoughts and Prayers. (Is Thoughts and Prayers already a Destiny gun? It should be.)

With Containment, there's a reasonable chance that you'll spawn into one that's already half way through (or even at the last phase), so it feels more generous than the other modes. And it's pretty good fun - no-nonsense* shooting stuff, with little in the way of throwing things at things and other obscure mechanics.

It feels like Bungie are pretty good at these seasonal mini-games by now. They seemed to over-engineer stuff like the Menagerie and massively under-engineer stuff like that early one with the Vex. This year's seasonal modes mostly got the balance right between being having interesting mechanics, and just letting you rip with your gun collection.

*Destiny is 100% nonsense, but you know what I mean.

I do not have a Bound Presence, sadly. They're quite the rare drop for me.

I’m sure during season it was guaranteed on first containment of week etc

But then after season they made it much rarer

I think my main hope for Lightfall is that they make the Solo Operative mod a permanent unlock. It makes solo-ing the harder bits of the game a LOT more fun - legendary Lost Sectors are really nicely balanced with the mod.

What are the seraph crafting weapons considered good to get?

Ive got the IK hand canon Disparity, and insane DPS machine gun.

Ikelos submachine gun. For either a Feeding Frenzy/Frenzy roll, or with Voltshot.

Fire and Forget, maybe?

All these weapons are largely optional anyway. We're about to get a presumably sizable new set with Strand synergies and so on. No-one needs to grind anything they don't want to.

It's the bloody season challenge that always gets me - not getting a huge chunk of free Dust sets my FOMO anxiety off.

Hence looking for GM, trails rounds etc. Better be another double rep weekend.

Ikelos SMG definitely. Feeding Frenzy / Voltshot for PVE, there are a few PVP rolls but Rangefinder + just about anything sounds like the way to go. Disparity and the LMG are the other two in that vid I posted so you're pretty much set.

Polite reminder while I'm here that Chill Clip sounds like a very handy perk for the Champion changes in Lightfall. Riptide drops from Crucible and can be focused at Shaxx, the perk pool seems bloody enormous though (have sharded at least a dozen of them). The Aurvandil fusion is a world drop and I got one of those the other day. Plenty of rockets roll with it too, including the craftable Bump In The Night.
