Owning all good N64 games

The New Tetris was pure hypnotic excellence with an improved game mechanic and some brilliant ambient music tracks to keep you in the zone while you played. Beats any Tetris update ever and IMO even surpasses the original. Best £9.99 I have ever spent on a game.

I actually sold off most of my N64 collection in the summer (games such as Rocket: ROW, Zelda MM and Mario Golf left my collection forever) but I still keep what I define as the best games I was able to purchase for the system

Jet Force Gemini

Donkey Kong 64

Ridge Racer 64

1080 Snowboarding

Pilotwings 64

Wave Race 64

GoldenEye 007

Turok 2 – Seeds of Evil (this game is impossible to get rid of)

F-Zero X

The New Tetris

International Superstar Soccer 98 (sadly the cartridge is dead for this, my favourite game on the system)

Super Mario 64

WWF Wrestlemania 2000 (great wressling game, but not the best)

V-Rally 99 (whoa, moon physics in action!)

Star Wars Episode 1 – Racer (bought on a whim, not great)

ExciteBike 64

Perfect Dark

Conkers Bad Fur Day (heaviest.cart.ever)

Paper Mario

I thought Star Wars Racer became quite interesting if you input the code that allows you to control the game with a controller in each hand. It adds a whole new and innovative control scheme that, although it takes some getting used to, transforms the game (you actually control each engine separately instead of the vehicle). It's also more in line with the way the movie portrayed the control of the pod. It's also really only possible with the n64 controller and thus unique to the machine.

The ones that I thoroughly enjoyed:

Jet Force Gemini - Next to the Zeldas, GE and PD, this is the most played game that I have ever owned. Playing this on a big telly with surround sound on is magical.

Forsaken - Really, REALLY hard, but a good laugh if you enjoyed games such as Descent.

Turok 2 - Not many people really liked this, but I played it all the way through.

Mario Kart 64 - I know yuo said you had no interest in this, but it's honestly one of the best four-player experiences that you will ever get. Halo-beater, even.

Space Station: Silicon Valley - Really obscure little game, but it gives you a lot of freedom and really makes you think on some stages.

Body Harvest - If you can look past the awful graphics and blurryness, there is a gem of a game underneath.

More when I remember them.

Did anyone play Fighters Destiny, The best fighting game on the N64

That isn't saying much though.

It wasnt saying much, but I thoroughly enjoyed this.

It brought something new (to me at least) to the genre in the form of winning through points rather than a life bar.

I really liked it, but I suspect if I look back on it now it will seem a pile of shite ;).

It was quite an odd beat em up, needing to unlock moves really doesn't seem right.

Did anyone ever get the joker? I think the master was the last character I unlocked..I could never quite manage him.

The Character design was utterly shite, I can clearly remember 3 maby 4 characters and then only because two where clowns, one gave you moves and the other was on the cover.

This thread is making me warm inside...I have 90% of the games mentioned! ;)

Rush 2049 - The best Rush game, and one of the best non-realistic racers on the N64. A handful of different routes to complete on track...ace!

And your cars have Stunt wings.

About Wetrix...there were very few inventive puzzle games on the N64. The Bubble-Bobble and Tetris rehases don't cut it three versions in. I, for one, was very greatful for it.

Despite what a bunch of folk have said, I wouldn't bother with Jet Force Gemini. I don't think it aged well. I got it maybe a year after it came out and that's how I felt at least. I can't imagine what it'll be like nowadays.

Agreed.

Must haves - pilotwings, body harvest.
