Castlevania - What is Netflix? A miserable pile of streaming!

The swearing seemed out of place. Probably because the games don't really have any.  In places it felt like a fan dub where the script is just ad-libbed.

Still I mostly enjoyed it and will be back for the second half.

Four 24 minute episodes constitutes a season? *Larry David confused gif*

Seen a couple. Not bad so far, was surprised to see Warren Ellis listed on scripting duties, and enjoyed Dracula being a semi-sympathetic character before the church fucked things up.

Something very ..nostalgic about this - in that it felt like one of those very first 'Manga UK' VHS releases - e.g. they picked something with a load of violence and put a ton of swearing into the dub..

As someone mentioned earlier.. this may be adapted from the script Ellis did back in 2007..

Watche3d it all yesterday, quite liked it. Not played any of the Castlevania games aside from the first 360 versionb but got the urge to play some more of the series now, even though I know this has very little to do with it in terms of tone.

Loved this, really well made, besides some dodgy 3d castle near the beginning. Its a good adaptation , has ridiculos gore, crazy priests and sexy Alucard. Just a small problem with it which will very likely be rectified with the 2nd series -

Spoiler

only about 20% of the show was inside dracula's castle. Fair enough that this was a series which set the scene well but i really hope they go all out with the main character of the game- the castle itself yo. The crypt and the random cogs area (from castevania 64 maybe  ) and alucard fight were all stand out awesome bits.

When the characters spoke I was so reminded of the 90s dubbed Manga Videos as @MDY said. It made me super nostalgic for watching Ninja Scroll and Monster City on big bbc vhs as a young un.

Nostalgia aside, I thought it was pretty enjoyable.  Some cool gore and a simple, snappy (albeit juvenile) plot.

If you like this I would absolutely check out an anime called Claymore. It shares a lot of themes with supernatural beasties and monochrome gore but is superior aesthetically and plot wise.

I watched it all last night and overall really enjoyed it, but as some have already pointed out, the series ends just as it gets going. The last two episodes picked up a lot more and it was obviously going to continue otherwise it'd be a complete waste. It would have been better as a single long episode really as they are quite short, but then you get that with a lot of anime. I don't particularly watch much anime in general, but this did take me back to the stuff I used to watch in the 90's which I used to love.

2 eps in. I really want to like this but the dialogue and VA is shit-tier. The accents are all over the place. The actors cast in smaller roles think they're in Victoria Wood's Dinner-ladies.

I pointed out the exact same observation to a mate of mine while we were watching, pausing during that scene with the woman cooking, trying to work out who it reminded me of until I figured it out on google. Some of the northern accents felt quite forced, especially her bit.

Looking forward to the next series when it's out.

I just finished watching this on Netflix, and thought it was really good! A little oddly paced with some pedestrian segments in the middle, but on the whole quite enjoyable. The dialogue was a lot better than I expected, this has a wry sense of humour at times coupled with a lead I couldn't dislike. Thorin Oakenshield made a great Trevor Belmont. Looking forward to more.

This is like some sort of brilliant guilty pleasure. The voice acting is sometimes as nostalgically ropey as a badly localised videogame/anime but it's really exciting and inventive and I already want the next season.

The norse vampire in Season 2 is incredible. PS1 SOTN grade acting.

That's none other than Peter Stormare, who seems to be America's first choice for "European-sounding guy". He's playing a different nationality every time I see him, and now he can add "Norwegian" to the list his one accent has covered.

Didn't find this season to be great, animation was dreadful in places which I can't remember being that bad and its generally I found just boring overall. Plus it really should have ended on episode 7, as it felt just odd just ending on episode 8 as it generally found like there should be another episodes to conclude or leave it on a cliffhanger but it just whimpers out.

Only seen the first two episodes so far, I thought the animation was fairly wooden in the first season too to be honest, I chalked it up to the abilities of the studio and also it aping 80s / 90s horror anime which could be very clunky anyway. There's a really jarring moment in episode 1 of season 2 where the characters are out of perspective with the background. The action scenes are mostly well done though, which again, is where the care and attention went in those old 90s anime OAVs.

Writing wise it's very, very obviously Warren Ellis, for better or worse.

I loved season 1 and I adore Warren Ellis, but this was just nothing amazing and any flourishes of his. I need to watch season 1 again but yeah season 2 there were ton of mistakes.

Never played the Castlevania games but I thought this was great. The violence is a bit over the top sometimes, but does it with enough style and inventiveness to just about get away with it. Season 1 got me curious and practically ended before it started, but Season 2 had much more meat on the bones, and the ending was incredibly satisfying. Really made you give a shit about the Alucard - Dracula relationship. Maybe some of the "Vampire War Room" type stuff dragged on a bit in the middle, but overall, more please.
