Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis

Sorry I just posted this in Retro but I should have posted it here.

I'm currently playing the PC version of Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis having last played it through in 1993!

I've got to the dig site in North Africa so far.

It is absolutely brilliant and I'm enjoying it much much more than I did originally - I think I'm better as dealing with puzzles nowadays!

Graphically its still lovely, the locations are really 'Indiana Jones' and the scripting and characters knock blocks off of most 'modern' games. I have more or less stopped playing KOTOR completely because, dare I say it, this game is better and I've got to finish it first.

Best game this year (so far)!!

Lucas Arts will probably never again reach such heady heights of gaming excellence.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis was one of the first PC games I played. Who needs a soundcard when you can hear the theme being played through the internal speaker.

Crumbs, I can barely remember it. There were three paths, right? The thinking path, the fighting path and...erm...was it teamwork? Anyway, that was a nice touch.

No time to think about it at the moment...but yeah, it was great.

tell me how to do the last bit.

I'm playing it on my gp32 (adventuring on the move) and am getting killed every fycking time by that nazi

If you're talking about the very last bit, then you have to convince the Nazi not to put you into the machine. I can't remember the exact dialogue you should choose, but saying "No beads, you crazy old man!" rings a bell. Then you have to bluff him that, once you're a God, you will kill him as your first act. Convince him to test it on himself, basically.

Yes, something like that. A quality game.

Point and clicks.. *drifts off* Sam and Max, Day of the Tentacle etc. etc. Brilliant.

the secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2, Loom...

And non-lucasarts: Beneath a Steel Sky, Simon the Sorcerer, the Legend of Kyrandia ...

Shall I go on? ;-)

And Lure of the Temptress. All those mentioned were great games, but Monkey Island 2 was the pinnacle for me. The rat in the vichycoisse remains my favourite gaming moment. ;)

Actually I'm currently in the process of writing an article on this very subject.

I can't wait until the new SCUMMVM is released with support for Broken Sword 1 & 2.

I'm already playing BS1&2 in ScummVM, in Linux no less. The support's already in the CVS versions.

They're currently recoding the cutscenes into mpeg2/ogg format, as Bink wouldn't let them use the original smacker codecs. BS2's pretty much done; BS1, at least in English, should be ready for 0.6.0, which is coming soon.

The Full Throttle support has -really- come on in the last few months.

The 0.6.0 release should also see the release of another old adventure game as freeware.

They did, when they released Grim Fandango. Though Fate of Atlantis is pretty spectacular too.

Grim Fandango was ok but I didn't enjoy as much when I played it (got it on release whenever that was). Something about the 3D that annoyed me and some of the puzzles seemed completely illogical.

My favorite Monkey moment was the insult-sword-fighting.

Hence the Sig ;-)

couldn't find another topic - thought this was relevant. IGN confirms today that the new Indy game for Wii will contain the whole of Fate of Atlantis as an unlockable. Impressions of the main game are pretty promising as well. ACE!

I haven't played it since playing on the TV... wonder how the 320x200 res graphics will translate onto a 480p display....

To be honest I'm going to buy it only for this.

Then maybe fill in one of those market research cards in the box stating the fact because I'm sure LucasArts will see big sales of this not very good looking game and release a poor sequel rather than seeing that there's huge love for their adventure games.

I still can't understand the lack of releasing them on DS and Wii, I don't know how well Broken Sword has done but I bet they don't even pick up on it. It's such an obvious way to exploit your old IP, which you'd think that Lucas would be all over like a rash.

So, Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings is out this week apparently. Any reviews anywhere? I'm mighty tempted to pick this up for Fate of Atlantis only, but if it's a turd I may wait till it's cheaper.
