Xbox Game Pass - GUIDE TO BEST DEAL IN FIRST POST

Has anyone else had trouble getting the weekly quests to work this week?  Specifically the Gang Beasts one doesn't seem to register that I've played the game.  The 'Play 3 games or get 3 achievements' quest is also broken (the counter recognises unlocked achievements but not games played).

Not sure if it's been mentioned in here already but MS confirmed a bunch of indie games coming to Game Pass over the next few months yesterday at ID@Xbox.

Stardew Valley is the biggest one, coming to Game Pass for PC and Xbox this Autumn:

Also Pupperazzi:

Which, whilst I love the concept, is let down by the lack of animation on the dogs in my opinion.

If you're making a Pokemon Snap type game with cute dogs you need to actually animate them moving about rather than having them bouncing up and down.

Also Evil Genius 2 is coming in Q4:

And lastly Arigami got a date (September 19th) for Game Pass.

That's five games from my Steam wishlist all surprise-announced (well, surprising to me, at least) for Game Pass in the past couple of days:

  • Humankind (4X strategy game from the developers of the superb Endless Legend and Dungeons of the Endless, this time bringing their own twist to the Civilisation 'world history' mode; this was my planned purchase for August, so has saved me £40+. I am very pleased)
  • Library of Ruina, which had sounded interesting pre-release, launched on Steam yesterday with a launch discount that almost saw me pick it up on a whim, so I was glad to check Game Pass first!
  • Boyfriend Dungeon, whose gameplay I'm not convinced will hold up, but whose conceit I love
  • Pupperazi, because Pupperazi
  • Evil Genius 2, whose reviews and response kept me from buying it at full price; had been holding out for a sale, but this'll definitely do!

Genuinely the best month of Game Pass announcements that I've had, and they all came within a week.

I've been playing Boyfriend Dungeon today, based purely on the name.  It's a game where you date people in modern day America who can turn into swords. This is a matter of fact stated in the first five minutes of the game. Believe. You fight cell phones and flying videotapes and more in the dunj, a randomly laid-out mall which projects your inner fears. Which sword/person you take with you increases their XP until you earn enough to take them on dates and gain new abilities.

The dunj-oneering is fine (possibly because I was playing on a laggy cloud connection that it wasn't really the best). You're not really playing for that, though, you're playing to court a fine selection of bladed weaponry and enjoy the sub-plots that each one brings. I just shared a moment with Isaac at a 4th of July BBQ and I'm definitely suspicious of Sunder's side activities.

The game doesn't push any gender agenda at you so you can be as specfic or non-specific as you like. And it's a world where it doesn't really punish you for being as polyamorous or monogamous you'd like. At least not yet; maybe you've got to make real choices later on, though. It's part Persona, part something like those dating sims like Dream Daddy, which I confess I haven't really played. Judging by the ability levels I got to, it doesn't seem too long a game, but maybe it reveals more depths later. Worth a quick go before Hades comes along, I reckon.

Stardew Valley takes the Harvest Moon gametype and basically perfects it. Its one of the greatest games I've ever played.

This!

Stardew Valley is a game that took me by surprise. I was a fan of the SNES version of Harvest Moon but hated every version I played after that, I think all of them was in 3D.
I didn’t suspect Stardew would be as good as the SNES Harvest but was surprised to learn that it was even better, by a lot!
Along with Binding of Isaac it remains my favourite indie of all times and I’ve rinsed it on every platform it’s on, even iOS!

Iv tried to get into stardew a number of times but it's just never clicked. One day.....

It didn't click with me when I first got it. I bought it for the PC, started it and played a couple of in-game weeks (about 2-3 hours) and it just didn't do much for me.
When I got the Switch it was one of the first games I bought as I thought having such a game on a handheld would help me spend more time with it, thus getting into it, and I was right to assume that. It did, however, take a long time before I actually developed a genuine love for the game.
I think it was after the first in-game year things started to feel right to me, I'd nearly completed the mines, I was earning loads of money from both harvesting and keeping cows and sheep, I was making a fortune making cheese, truffle oil etc. but the stuff that really sucked me in was the lore of the game, the secrets to unlock and getting to actually know each of the villagers.

Who's the wizard, really? What's with the community center and the creatures living there? What are the four legendary fish and how do I catch them? Who is the mysterious Qi character? What lurks in the sewers below the village? What's in the desert and how do I get there? All this and a lot more just kept piling on my interest in the game and I had a blast uncovering the secrets in the nooks and crannies of the village.

Hades is out on GP today! It's a must for anyone who hasn't played it yet, especially if you like the genre and even if you're not into the genre there's a chance you'll like this one.

Yeah it didn't appeal to me at all but given how much the fans love it of course I'm going to give it a try.

Just like I'd have played and probably enjoyed Returnal on gamepass but fuck paying £70 for it.

I hate Rougelikes and usually get as far as that word, or the word prcedural, before swiftly moving on when browsing GamePass, but I really enjoyed Hades.

Hades is one of the best games I've ever played. Everyone should try it! I'm definitely going to install it - even if I don't commit to starting again properly from scratch, I can't wait to see that gorgeous art in 4K.

If they do cross play between the xbox and Switch versions, then I'm in, have put plenty of time in on the Switch but there was only pc / epic cross save last time I loked :(

I'm in the really dislike Stardew Valley lonely section of the Venn diagram. Just so much busywork, the rewards of which are the ability to automate that busywork.

The rewards of automating the so called busywork is that you get to focus on the other aspects of the game, as the dungeon exploring, socializing, marriage, exploring the tropical island and solving the mysteries found there, finding Mr Qi, finding the witch and solving a fair few of the riddles you unveil by delving deeper into the lore.

Are you trying to explain why I'm wrong for disliking something?
