Xbox Game Pass - GUIDE TO BEST DEAL IN FIRST POST

That bit was tough, but it only took me a few tries. Are you going down the stairs on the left?

Yes, and that was the main issue - the aiming system goes completely to pot when running enemies are on a different elevation. First 5 were easy, but then it throws some very close together and you have a tiny window to actually hit them (with no time to reload before they are on you). All this while dealing with those archers that can happily shoot through the cart if you position yourself incorrectly.

In the end, I cheesed it - took out the first 7 and let #8 reach me but killed him with one of the potions. Was not proud, but just happy to be able to get going again.

It was an irritating difficulty spike, but glad you got through. I really enjoyed the game and finished it earlier this year. I used Cloud Gaming to get the Game Pass quest and an achievement I missed near the start and it felt kind of good being back in the world (apart from having to relive that incident at the start).

I had the same issues as @rgraves - the aiming system messing up with the different elevations.

If it had felt like the constant dying was due to me messing up it would have been fine, but it wasn’t. I also didn’t like the fact that for most of the game you could generally avoid fast reaction combat, yet they put this one bit in where you had no choice but to do it in that manner.

Yeah, it was a shame as I really loved the rest of it - and once past it the rest was OK (the final boss took a few tries, but nothing even close to the damn cart bit).

I am really looking forward to the new one though, that one bit aside I loved it.

Chalk me up as another one who found that section unbelievably stupid. I suspect if you have upgraded your sling enough, it might become easier, but I had upgraded most other things, because, up until that point, the sling had seemed like a perfectly capable weapon.

For anyone that's played Myst before, how much note taking do you have to do? I'm worried I might start playing and find it really annoying if I'm always reaching for a pen and paper. Cheers

I’ve tried to play it loads and it’s dead hard, I never get anywhere with it, dunno if this new version is more friendly but yeah note probably an advantage I would say, necessary even.

I’ve been taking photos with my phone! But then deleted it after about 30 minutes as I just knew I wouldn’t have the patience for it. Felt the same when I tried years ago!

It's like knitting fog, in my experience. I tested the PS1 version and had to start with a guide and work backwards, testing the wrong solutions to stuff. Even with a guide that didn't just tell me what to do, it explained the puzzles and how you were meant to solve them, there were a number of times I thought "how the fuck was I supposed to know that?"

I don't really want to extend the conversation about Myst, I think it's probably best left to the ages of cd-rom experiments, but this 'new' version has some sort of alternative puzzle mode.

Has anyone persevered with this? I feel like I'm still missing the point of it 30 years later.

Yeah I'd like to hear a bit more about it.   Myst was a game I'd read about but couldn't afford a PC at the time. And Edge magazine retro a few years ago made it sound well worth playing but opinions above about it being rock hard (I guess a thing of it's time) put me off.

Other than the frankly excellent Injustice and Mortal Kombat games, are there any good, kinda casual fighting games on GP?

Killer instinct?

Yeah Killer Instinct is criminally overlooked. It's great.

It's a real shame because it looks like quite a pretty game world. Wasn't it originally static screens or something? I'm sure that's what put me off the original, so I was quite surprised to see it all in 3D. But it would definitely do my nut in after reading comments like yours :)

It’s not on GP but it is free: Dead Or Alive 6 Core Fighters. In this free version you don’t have access to story mode or most characters for vs matches, but you do get the full Quest Mode with all characters, which is brilliant all by itself. I do a quest a day, it’s really good. And you get all the tutorials, challenge modes etc.

Garou mark of the wolves last month, samurai showdown 2 this month, killer instinct, Fight Night Champion, Injustice2. There is a catalogue go use it.
