Might sound obvious but have you tried turning the console off poroperly by pulling the plug, leaving it that way for a few mintues then plug in and turning it back on?

The Xbox One (and by extension the Series too) has always shat the bed if it loses its internet connection, it can't cope with it at all.

Under Network settings somewhere there should be an option to manually set the Xbox to "Offline mode" - if you do that then you should be fine.

Thanks for suggestions.  I tried both of these & no-go I'm afraid.  It appears that if a Gamepass game can't do a validation check when you first boot it up you're out of luck.  I could still be missing something though.  Could it be that a validation check is required whenever the console is turned on, & that check is valid for a week/month or until the console turns off again?

I have strict NAT and almost always my game pass games error out on first start. Usually I wait a minute or so and reboot and everything works fine. Fortunately I've never had it happen for any length of time like you are having.

Was looking at subscribing to Gamepass using the method on the 1st page of the thread. Some of the Digital Live Gold cards for sale online say “Live Gold for 360” others say “Live Gold for Xbox One”. Does it make any difference which ones I buy?

Edit - Done. Next payment - 2025. Lol. Only £120 even though I’d already done a month for £1. :)

Oof - didn't realise I would have to buy Halo Reach and ODST - thought they would be part of MCC under Gamepass.

Wasn't expecting that!

As others have said they are :). Even if you’ve played Reach before,  then it’s 100% worth a revisit. Not only does it play just as well you may remember it to, but it also now looks bloody brilliant!!

As for ODST, I’ve not played through it again this time round, but oh my that is a superbly atmospheric game and for me an absolute Halo hidden gem!!

Played Reach for the first time the other week after Infinite and honestly it blows Infinite out the water.

Oh for fucks sake really?  Haven’t had a chance to play it but was hoping for more 1080 than SSX.

It's not that bad and the boarding is fun. As said closer to 1080 than SSX

2h in and it's not really comparable to ssx. Closer to Amped / 1080.

I'm finding the controls really weird. Carving around feels really chilled though. Only given it about half an hour though so early days.

My Internet has been fixed & Gamepass is back, so I'm going to try some tests to see just what the rules are for playing Gamepass offline.  I started up Unpacking & after closing it down again I set the Xbox to 'Offline' & started up Psychonauts 2 (a game I haven't started before & wouldn't start when the internet was out) which started up with no trouble.  I've now set the Xbox to go to 'Standby' instead of 'Energy Saver' as I suspect that the issue may be that the validation only lasts until the Xbox powers off, which 'Energy Saver' counts as.

My tests are complete & it seems that Garwoofoo is correct.  It doesn't matter what power state the Xbox is in, & you can manually go offline at any time just by selecting the option in the settings & Gamepass games continue to work just fine.

All that seems to matter is whether the Internet connection is actually lost rather than being manually disconnected.  I assume that when you go offline manually some kind of flag is left in the Xbox's memory saying how long you are able to play these games, either 30 days or until your Gamepass subscription expires, whichever comes first.  This would mean that if you were expecting problems you could go offline manually or even just leave the system offline & only check in every now & then, but then you'd loose the advantages of Xbox Live & other network functions such as updates.

The idea of using a mobile hotspot just to validate is a good one.  You could go online just long enough to put the system offline.  That's not an option for me unfortunately as I live in a Mobile Blackspot, but definitely something to keep in mind for the future.

Shredders is fucking amazing!!! Best Snowboarding game in years, probably since Amped. Not sure why people have moaned about the voices, they’re not that bad at all considering it’s - 1. A snowboarding game. 2. An Indie game. 3. You unlock free roam as you play which means it’s just you, your board, and the mountain, with no disturbances at all.

They’ve pretty much nailed the feel and core gameplay. Controls are great. There’s a good set of various story missions to 3 star, collectibles and gaps to hit in free roam, nice selection of maps, multiplayer etc. Music is really, really good in it too.

Only downsides are the performance issues - there’s some nasty screen tearing at times, LOD pop up, and the framerate can drop/stutter now and again. Testament to how good the core of the gameplay is that, none of that actually matters when you’re playing. Stuck it on for a quick go the other day.......which turned into a 4hr session. Really good game!

Yeah, it seems loaded with content as well. Played for hrs and hrs and still unlocking missions and got a few areas of the mountain still to unlock too. The quick restarts make a huge difference and having the drone, so that you can quickly drop in wherever you want, whenever you want is a great idea too. Not sure if the snowmobile or pulley stuff has been done before but that’s a nice addition as well. Spent ages in free roam chilling out and putting runs together, collecting the items and completing the gaps. Its just a really fun game!

Having spent some time in Xbox/Gamepass land & deciding that I like it here, I’m considering that better furniture I talked about before.  This would either be a Series S or a Series X & while there’s quite a big difference in price the only difference in capability appears to be processing power.  Considering that I game on a 32” TV the 4K capability is irrelevant but I wonder if more & more games Gamepass games might start needing the extra horsepower of the Series models, or even if they don’t they might run better in general as I’ve had a few stutters on even classic & indie games, but that might just be the games.

EDIT: Thinking about it, it's probable best if I spend the bit more for the Series X.  I'd rather have the power & not need it (until I upgrade the TV, play later games, need more Drive Space, etc) than need it but not have it.

Go for it. I can’t vouch for the Series S myself (though people generally speak

very highly of it) but I’ve found the Series X to be a fantastic piece of hardware. Fast (menus, loading and the superb quick resume) and quiet to the point that other than its hello /

goodbye beep, I’ve never heard mine make a sound.

They’re both currently in stock on the MS store so you can buy cheap MS credit from CD keys, Eneba, Gamivo etc which should bring the prices down to around £205 / £380 :)

I went from an S to an X after 6 months. I had zero issues with the S. Everything on it looked great and ran well on my 4K telly. But for me it became a combination of storage space (esp with GP), lack of disc drive and X having more games at 60fps.

It was a good decision albeit for a minor quality of life upgrade lol
