Bit surprised there hasn't been much talk around As Dusk Falls. Played Chapter 1 tonight and once I got used to the sightly odd art/animation style (took about 10 minutes) I was completely gripped for the next hour or so. It rattles along at a good old clip and presents you with a series of some of the most engaging choices I think I can remember in these kind of games. Mostly all killer and none of the David Cage nonsense filler, or even a lot of the filler-ish stuff from Until Dawn/The Quarry. Hope it can keep it up.

I only finished The Last Stop recently so it’ll be a while before a pick up another narrative thing. I can’t do too much of that type of game as I feel like I may as well watch TV.

I’m a fair way through it and enjoying it. I’m starting to feel a bit overwhelmed by the number of branches in the decision tree, though. Generally I play these sort of games once through and live with my decisions, but it feels like I’m missing a lot.

Spoiler

Also, if one of the options available is to bottle someone, I’m always going to choose that option!

Technical issues aside Sable continues to l impress me. I am at end game (need to head back to the starting camp to choose my final mask) and just mopping up Chum eggs and the final ship quest.

It's also very chill, no combat, just zooming along the dunes in my trusty hoverbike.

Talking of the decision tree, does anyone know what happens if you replay from a certain point using the explore story screen? Does it "rewrite" your original choices from your existing save game?

After I got over the Dear Deidre presentation style, I was enjoying As Dusk Falls, but it’s like you can feel the budget ebbing away by the second in Book 2. Way less interactivity and difficult choices. I thought was at about the 2/3 mark of the game and then it ended really abruptly. I just assumed there'd be a book 3 or at least one in the near future. But reading the web, nothing at all has been announced so that really was it or the off chance of a sequel way down the line. As much as I enjoyed the first half, overall I found it a pretty unsatisfying experience.

Loved Sable. Some great climbing in there. I almost completed it but I think I've got one more egg to find and no clue where it might be. Argh!

Really enjoying Road 96. Imagine if Life is Strange and the Walking Dead went on a road trip together. That’s pretty much it in a nutshell.

Currently playing this and enjoying it, but it's tonally all over the place. You go from hints of teenage death camps to comedy quiz show mini games in a nanosecond.

It is extremely French comic strip in the way it's written. I've enjoyed it (four, maybe five runs done so far — enough to complete Zoe's story), and I enjoy the tone (I'm used to French comics), but the actual quality of the dialogue isn't quite where it ought to be to really make the game sing. Though perhaps it's better in the original language — I never checked to see if there was the option to play in French.

Since I wrote that I’ve completed one run and not sure if I can be bothered with more. Most of the characters are irritating dickheads.

I'm just starting my third run, and it's endearing in a charmingly rubbish way (same as The Last Stop). The quality and interactions are all over the place, but there's enough wonkiness in there and it moves at a brisk enough pace that I'm getting enough out of it.

Managed to get two over the border so far, including over the top. I was one energy bar away from death (I think) doing that second one.

These Annapurna games are coming to Game Pass:

This is great news as I was pretty close to buying both Maquette and Solar Ash in the past 🙂

Just completed Escape Academy in one glorious, puzzly sitting. If you have any love for escape rooms or puzzle games in general I’d say it was essential.

I find myself accidentally triggering the hints all the time. It’s absolutely infuriating, and I can’t understand how it made it past user testing

Yes. I did it a couple of times myself and it was super annoying. A confirmation prompt would have been welcome.

I didn't bother finding all the eggs myself in the end, just enough for the achievement and the mask (100).

A couple of screenshots from my post endgame sojourn. The graphical style is just stunning in certain instances.

What you can do in advance is make sure you have Live codes from CDKeys all ready. They were selling 3 and 6 month codes at huge discounts last week.

Remember that if you turn off auto renew before using a code, then allow it to be turned on again during redemption, a three month code turns into a four month code - so you only need three to cover a year.

Also CD keys can package 2 x 3 month codes as a 6 month code, meaning you'll get 2 free months instead of one. Check when you receive them.

Yes, that's true, and that's what I actually did.  But be warned that sometimes the 6-month is actually more expensive than 2 lots of 3-month.

Seems like the prices are fluctuating, when I bought mine the price was £1 difference and I needed to get around the limit on 3 month codes per order. JPL managed to get them cheaper somehow, so I guess its worth keeping an eye on them.

Great recommendation. Really enjoying it. The puzzles are firm but fair. There's a time limit to things to keep it tense but it doesn't really punish you too much for running out of time.
