Anyone know if the Paw Patrol racer is any good?

It’s incredibly slow, and frustrating.

Played this for a while with my son yesterday. It is, in fact, incredibly slow and frustrating. And a bit buggy. And it has balance issues.

And, worst of all, the two player modes are essentially non existent. There's single race or you can set up a custom "championship". But it doesn't keep any kind of score, so it's not like you win the championship.

And you can't seem to play the main mode in multiplayer.

Just really poor. My son like playing it, though. But I think he just likes playing games with me.

Just checking like an idiot.

if my gamepass magic deal has ended and I’m now being charged £10.99 a month, can I still buy xbl codes as per the first post and do the upgrade trick?

Cancel your recurring sub and wait for it to expire, I believe.

EDIT: lol

I have a vague recollection that you have to let it expire first. Someone else can probably confirm.

Yes, that's correct. I renewed mine for three years at the weekend after letting it run out with auto-renew turned off.

I then turned off auto-renew again after doing the upgrade/conversion, as it will turn it back on by default. Always worth doing it so you don't get charged any more into you decide on it.

The questions you have to ask yourself with any PS2+ era Persona games — and particularly P5, which is the weakest of the set — are always:

- do I like visual novels

- do I enjoy tactical JRPG combat and/or collecting a menagerie of creatures to use in said combat

- do I enjoy high school drama

- can I put up with Very Anime everything*

- do I mind playing for 4 hours before the game turns the autopilot off

If the answer to any of the above is "no", then the series probably isn't for you, despite the satisfying blend of life simulation and combat elements, the surprisingly compelling storylines, and the extremely strong visual design and music.

* Very Anime Everything will include moments of creepy objectification of teenage girls, and of casual homophobic 'humour'

These days it feels like when games are infected with point 4, they tend to be really infected with it. It's no half measures any more. Just mountains of sub NEG level stunted Sonic loving anime fan wankery for wannabe pederasts.

I'd say that the Personae are a bit less afflicted by that than other games — inasmuch as they haven't really devolved into greater levels of creepiness, rather stabilising at 4's level of "oh, here's a creepy moment", which in the case of 5 ends up clashing particularly poorly with the story it's trying to tell.

It's very frustrating that it's languished there instead of pulling back from the precipice of yuck, but at least it's not leaped aboard the train to New Creepsville along with e.g. Fire Emblem.

I dunno there’s some outfits the girls are wearing which just instantly rules it out of ever being on the telly.

Oh, I'm not praising Persona 5's presentation here, just noting that it's not really part of the "anime games these days" camp that Benny's identifying, but rather evidence of them sticking to a formula they established back in 2008,* for better and for worse.

*And in so doing possibly inspired a lot of the games Benny's thinking of. A bit like the Half-Lifes, only for creepy dating sim elements rather than insipid action game campaigns.

Yeah. I'm a no to all those except the battles.

Kinda makes sense why it's not clicked.

I remember quite enjoying Persona 3 I think it was though.

Essentially 4 and 5 just build on what 3 started, but they put the visual novel aspect front and centre, and make it more critical to general progress in the game. IIRC, 3 also gets you into the dungeon crawl that is the meat of its gameplay a lot faster and with less hand-holding. As the battles are the thing you enjoy, it makes sense you'd enjoy 3 more!

For what it's worth, once 4 and 5 let you loose on their dungeons they are, if anything, even more satisfying to crawl than 3's Tartarus; but you've a lot more story to wade through between sessions, and if you're not enjoying that side of things I think it would sour the game for you.

So, I started Playing "Lake" a few days back out of sheer curiosity. I finished getting the last achievement tonight, such a chilled out and relaxing game. I've said it before, but it is games like this and not the big AAA releases that I value game pass for most and this song has been playing in my head since the first day.

The music was definitely the highlight of the game for me.

It's news to me, but in case it's not been announced Gunfire Reborn is coming to Xbox Game Pass in 12 days.

I recently played through this on steam deck. It's a really good FPS rogue like, you pick skills as you go and when the synergies click it's really satisfying feeling like a badass blowing shit up.
