Ive been trying to find out the name of a magician I saw on TV probably in the 80s or early 90s. It was a really creepy Japanese masks trick that had the usual maskchanges but also floating masks and stuff. It may have been on the Paul Daniels magic show. Cant find it by googling and all the mask tricks on YouTube are modern not 80s and arent as creepy. Any ideas whatit could be? Its driving me crazy!!

MMM, bian lian...

Would have been my go to for notable performances, but...

Historically, Bian Lian had rarely been seen outside of China because non-Chinese were not permitted to learn the art form, but since the mid-2000s it has been performed occasionally in international mass media and at Chinese themed events. Juliana Chen performed on The World's Greatest Magic television special with a brief black-light performance of Bian Lian

This is the guy I thought of as soon as I read your description. Took me a while to find his name though: Jeff McBride

Jeff McBride on the Paul Daniels show (28.30 minutes in)

You're welcome. Hope it hasn't traumatised you any further. :D

It must have freaked me out as a kid too. That's why I had the vivid image of it when you described it.
