This seems to have been out in Hong Kong for a few days. Had a little go in Sino Centre yesterday on one of the store owner's machines and it just felt underwhelming and dated.

Switch version seems to have launched at HK$250 (about 25 quid) too, which seems unusually cheap, and I wasn't even tempted at that price.

It's £25 for all versions (even the special editions) over here. Been as low as £20 for pre-orders.

I’m up to the first boss, and it’s so fucking slow and boring, and I keep dying because I can’t work out how to hit it on the third wave. I jump up but the camera moves down and I lose the homing target. Tried about three times before I put Super Mario Odyssey back on.

I'm not hating it as much as I was expecting to. It looks nice enough, it's fast, the controls are ok (the avatar ones are weird at first but they click after a bit) and for the most part it seems to be well built and not falling apart like other entries. The story is bollocks and it's crazy short, but I can see myself going back and doing S ranks and all the special missions, so I should get a decent amount of play out of it. There are some perplexing bits, like the removal of the bottomless pit indicators, and the lightening wisp seems very picky about when it wants to lock on, but overall it's fine, and fine is better than I was anticipating, so I'm ok with that.

Bottomless pit indicators seem to indicate poor game design more than anything. I never needed them in Green Hill Zone or Mystic Cave on the Mega Drive because the camera and environments told me not to fall, but Sonic Advance seemed to need them.

Went to check some reviews on youtube, and there seems to be more videos of fans moaning about Polygon's review score than reviews.

I mean yeah shitting on Polygon is fair enough, but then all these other reviews come out that seem to suggest it's bad to average just makes the fans seem whiny and defensive.

Oh wait, it's the Sonic fandom. Never mind. Everything's normal. Bet most of them are just pissed you can't give their avatars massive dicks and boobs.

Not or. AND.

Let’s dig this topic up for more!

It’s on sale on the eshop just now for around 8 quid.

We watched Sonic 2 for the second time last night, and it had me in the mood for some 3d sonic action… the kids are interested in (spoiler for those who haven’t seen the end credits scene in Sonic 2)

Spoiler

Shadow the Hedgehog

and something that looks more modern than Mania.

The game controls like a Tesco trolley with a wonky wheel, filled with bricks and thrown down a steep hill… it’s pretty bad, pretty unresponsive. Making your own character is a bit silly, it’s a Sonic game so obviously I want to control the original characters… so I just made a blue hedgehog (with a Sanic T-shirt because… 🤷‍♂️)

However, I did stay up quite late last night playing it. I mean it’s 8 quid, which is the price of a large kebab of questionable quality, plus it this probably won’t give me the shits in the morning! It’s fairly enjoyable and I reckon my kids will like it for a wee while. Until my 6yo makes us watch the movies back to back again. And again. And again…

They should pay you money just for acknowledging the game exists. You certainly should never pay for it!
