HAHA Ordinary Embarrassing gets Ko'd big time, hope his carrer is well and truly over because he deserves nothing more than to be pointed and laughed at. Overhyped, Overrated bum.

Amir Khan was truly amazing again, the guys Speed, power and vision is truly top class, British or commonwealth champion by the end of the year.

The Earl fight was a fantastic sight to see that doesn't really happen in boxing these days. They both dug deep stood toe to toe and went for all.

Tonights boxing on ITV had everything.

Amir Khan showing some skill, though im still not 100% convinced - but lets hope he goes on to bigger things.

FrAudley HAsbeen getting his just deserts at last.

And a fantastic fight, the fight of the year no doubt with Earl and the Australian. Thost two could both punch and take a great punch too!

The Benn / McClelland tragedy is well, tragic. I really hope that would not have been allowed, or noticed sooner today.

It just goes to show that they do risk it all everytime they step into the ring.

Erm, yes it does. Castillo Vs Corrales first fight springs to mind and was actually better than Earl's (cracking) effort tonight. Great fight though.

No one likes the bugger though. As soon as he entered the arena there was booing and jeering.

If he wasn't such a big headed tosser, then I might have been a bit more charitable, but after going through years after his gold medal performance by fighting losers and has-beens, he has the gall to proclaim himself as the only decent Birtish heavyweight...Fact is he's obviously got a glass jaw, and has no idea of what good tactics should be.

Even with his last fight against Williams, he was pretty crap...

Let's face it, Danny Williams blows hot and cold with alarming regularity, so I'm never suprised when he gets knocked down. I like the guy though - even though he's a bit of a loon.

If you were serious I think you would indeed be the only one!

To compare previous heavyweight gold medalists after 6 years.

Ali had won the world title within 4 years, managed a year off through an injury and then come back to start working through all available contenders. He'd had a fairly tough build up - most people consider he lost the fight with Dough Jones.

Frasier was world champion by 1969, he'd had a tough trip through the ranks and had fought the likes of Quarry on the way to the title.

Foreman won the title in 1973, 4.5 years or so after being olympic champion. reasonably tough build up, broke an oponents arm in a build up match.

Tyrell biggs - 1984. got hooked on coke which finished him as a fighter, took on tyson at his peak. Tyson beat the crap out of him, carrying him for several rounds to prolong the beating..

Lennox Lewis. Won gold in 1988, came over to the uk. Had slow build up on the under cards but took a step up in class and cleaned up the domestic scene by working the likes of mason and williams over. Got in with Razor Ruddock when no one really fancied the job and flattened him. Bowe didn't fancy Lewis either. World champion 4 years later.

So as you can see Harrison should have been on for a title shot some time in 2004 but he believed his own hype and wanted to do things "his way". Which is fair enough, many boxers and indeed sportsmen think that because the likes of Ali or Jordan who were blessed with major talent think they can do it in the way those 2 did, however just about all lack the talent and almost none have the worth ethic these amongst others shared.

Harrison pissed around and was massivley arrogant (British champion after 5 fights) but worse than that he insulted the intelligence of the paying public - the fights on the BBC were dull, boring and Harrison laboured to win them, he stopped very few of the very limited opponents he was faced with. But he presented what he was doing as some sort of major achievement and that anyone who disputed this knew nothing.

The alarm bells really rang for me when he couldn't stop an ageing (some would say decrepid) Julius Francis a man who was coming in at a late notices, was overweight and was near 40 - but still gave Harrison a fight. A world class fighter would have dealt with Francis with a minimum of fuss.

Fighting Williams who came in massivley overweight was the first real test - and he bottled it. One hit with a proper heavyweights shots harrison's outlook changed immediatly. Williams put him down and that was the last we'd seen of him. He lost in the states to another nobody and then came back over here after a build up win to fight Skelton. Sadly Skelton was injured otherwise he'd have beat the crap out of Harrison with his workrate and an undertrained and out of condition williams was rolled on to rebuild "Aforce".

Williams really shouldn't have been there IMHO and that fight was meaningless. Signing with Warren showed me that Harrison wanted to make it but he wanted to fight rubbish on the way as frankly thats what Warren does - see Calzaghes latest fight......

Sprot was clearly up for it, he trained and despite being a smallish heavyweight was clearly there to give it a go and had the punch to do it.

Harrison is now finished. The East Europeans that rule the division will simply have too much of a work ethic for Harrison, who's not blessed with a knockout punch anyway and all but the most overweight or badly trained American will have too much for him.

I love these boxing threads, sometimes I feel I'm the only one who gives a toss or stays up to stupid hours of the night watching matches. Boxing thread anyone?

McClelland was a case of a boxer staying at way too low a weight, drying out and then being thrust under hotlights that drained him further. He was being lined up for a go at Jones and then Moorer both of who he'd have had a chance with. I honestly don't know if anything else could have been done, frankly given the previous incidents that had occured and the care that was now being taken at boxing events back in the mid 90's he was probably saved by the fact it was in the UK as at the time we had the highest level of care and on call doctors for this sort of thing.

Boxers are the most honest sportsmen around and they are usually the nicest as well. I've met a few and they were all great - Benn in particular, always my idol along with the likes of Thomas Hearns.

McClelland wasn't someone I had great sympathy at the time with for 2 reasons.

1. The story's about his training of dogs for fighting and how he used to toughen them up (he'd buy dogs and then set his dogs on them).

2. McClelland had spoke about someone getting badly hurt in this fight - he was going to do to Benn what had happened to Watson. He said something like that which infuriated Benn. Boxrs only wish to stop their opponents for 10 seconds and not cause them any lasting damage.

I'm not sure of my memory of that time - I may be wrong but obviously I hope McClelands well as he's paid a massive price for his career and any mistakes he may have made in the past. I really wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Yeah, McClelland was not exactly a pleasant individual. Coincidentally, I watched that fight on Youtube just last night; Benn took an absolute beating, particularly in the early rounds, and if I'd been asked which of the boxers came away permanently injured without seeing the last round, I'd have put money on it being him. Dehydradion really does seem to play a major part in those kinds of injuries.

McClellands in a dire state still; mostly blind, deaf and brain damaged, I believe he's incapable of understanding that he's blind and is constantly under the impression that he's in a darkened room or something. A bit of a living death, really.

Harrison's done. I really can't think of another recent boxer who's talked the talk but so conspicuoulsy failed to walk the walk.

When he won the olympic gold i thought "good for him", he had the back story of the bad life turned good.

then he turned pro. he fought that private investigator chap from miami that just happened to have a professional heavyweight boxing license and beat him in an unispiring contest. he gave his best ever ( i use that term loosely) press conference to say that audley is still learning the game. i thought that was a good humble admission, and he said to watch out as he goes to bigger and better things. and he never went any further, he just fought bum after bum after bum. he just spouts crap in his conferences.

i would dearly love to see him step into the ring with one of the klitchkos (SP?) or even lennox just get back to shape for one more time and step in. they would cave his face in. in fact im not sure if he would be allowed to fight lennox lewis even now, he would probably have a tough time with annie lennox.

So who's our 'best' heavyweight now? Harrison's virtually finished, Williams has his good fights and poor ones and to be honest I hadn't heard of Sprot before although I only watch the occasional fight.

Let's hope 'enry Cooper is planning a comeback

Skelton, which says a lot about the state of British boxing and the Heavyweight division in general. :)

Still, there's plenty of quality fights coming up this year outside of what is now one of the worst weight classes in boxing. Oscar De La Hoya Vs Floyd Mayweather Jnr is the one I'm most looking forward to. Best fight that has been made this decade, on paper anyway.
