apologies - I figured being a games forum and this being full of witcher fans, it was highly likely that folks would be pretty knowledgable about the games.

on my deathless mother thing though, yeah - she's obviously

Spoiler

just and indivudal in the hunt herself

so it's very different

Just caught up and finished the second season, which overall I really enjoyed, but couldn't totally tell you specifically why.

I've never played the games or read the books so only get what they show on screen, and do agree that the plot in the second series does seem to be moving things around a bit for season 3 rather than tell any satisfying tale in its own right.

I'm not always that sure what is going on with the political stuff and various factions, either I've not paid enough attention or it's all a bit lightly sketched. In something like Game of Thrones I always knew who the clans/kingdoms were and who I liked or not, in this I've not got a clue.

Does look great though, way better than the dire Amazon Wheels of Time, not a giant foam hand in sight and the locations are much better realised. Really liked Jeskier's songs too this season, especially Whoreson Prison Blues (the in show spoons version is far better than the soundtrack one).

I've just finished the 2nd Series and have to say I thought it was a bit of a curates egg, there's obviously some good stuff there but other aspects were pretty dull. I think a lot of it came down to  very serious people  talking about very serious things with very little levity and it didn't help that some of the acting was terrible  ,special mention to  Rik Mayall's elf cousin and his missus as well as Ciri and Yenn wen they were together.

On a positive note some of the political machinations  are pretty interesting outside of the main one and the entire thing takes an uptick when Jaskier is around , specifically when he and Geralt are together.Looks like the budget got a significant bump too and some of the monsters were cool looking.

Some new cast for season 3. Robbie Amell, Meng’er Zhang, Hugh Skinner and Christelle Elwin.

Amell will play Gallatin. A born fighter, Gallatin leads an army of guerrilla Scoia’tael fighting on behalf of Nilfgaard. Unafraid to speak his truth, Gallatin’s loyalty to his people ultimately leads him on a collision course with Francesca over power.

Zhang is Milva. A human adopted by the dryads of Brokilon Forest, Milva is a fierce and talented huntress. Exact archery skills coupled with a stone-cold aptitude for survival make her a formidable adversary in the unforgiving Continent – those that cross her, do so at their peril.

Skinner portrays Prince Radovid. Royal playboy and younger brother to King Vizimir, Radovid finds himself suddenly a man on the inside of the Redanian Intelligence. With his good looks and often drunken charm, Radovid surprises with how incisive he can be in matters of politics, but it’s all games until someone gets hurt.

Elwin plays Mistle, a member of The Rats, a gang of misfit teenagers who steal from the rich and give to themselves – and sometimes the poor. She is street hard, suspicious of everyone and out for revenge, until a chance meeting that will change everything.

Cavill is obvs the best thing about this television programme, and I too was aghast at this shocking revelation at first. However when I think back I couldn’t picture young, super clean cut Henry pulling off gruff, scarred, scruff bag, Geralt but he did. He absolutely nailed it. So maybe young, super clean cut Hemmo will too.

Looking forward to the Hemsworth charm offensive where he builds a PC and pretends to be into Warhammer.

Your prediction skills are Nostradamus-like. He's already claiming to be a Witcher fan just Cavill and look I have guns like Cavill:

This is a shame. I don’t really know the new actor, so nothing against him, but not having Cavill cement a solid run as Geralt over a few more seasons is a big loss (assuming it wouldn’t have gone to shit as a show). Legendary character/actor pairing status not to be. The Superman money must be immense.
